anyway i tweeted angie to ask her abt an alternate universe in which silas & marcia would’ve been best friends since childhood and she was like “silas and marcia will never get along, sorry. they find each other too annoying” and i was like :(((((((((
because obviously i don’t agree. i mean, cursed marsilas aside (i genuinely love weird romantic dynamics like that, i mean, enemies to lovers when you actually work thru mutual feelings of hatred and have them sorta slowly learn to respect each other and admire each other is SO MUCH FUN i will admit it’s my jam when done right - but also, me writing marsilas romantically is very much a joke because silas and marcia are SO FUNNY) - cursed marsilas aside!!! i think silas and marcia have GREAT potential for friendship
firstly, it’s really funny how in canon initially marcia is like “oh silas heap is the worst!!! I hate him i hate him i hateeeeeee him” & he’s the same towards her, and then gradually marcia meets the other heaps and wOW aunt zelda? is more annoying than silas?? sarah heap?? does not respect marcia AT ALL and is annoyed that marcia makes septimus do so much work (i mean, he is her apprentice, but sarah is His Mother Thank You Very Much Ms Overstrand) and silas sort of respects marcia too, like he Knows marcia is a good person and the whole thing of marcia giving infant princess jenna heap to silas and sarah to raise implies so much trust??? she might not have liked them but she knew they were good people
anyway. all that aside
CHILDHOOD FRIENDS. often you make friends with people in ur childhood who you would NEVER befriend in your adulthood, like that’s the magic of childhood, you know?? not in a weird way or whatever. one of my best friends and i (been besties with her since idk, we were both ... 7?) is so drastically different from me today that i would probably have been too shy to even TAlk TO HER but because we have all this shared history we get each other in ways we wouldn’t otherwise
i love the idea of tiny marcia sticking up for tiny silas. like she doesnt like the weird messy chaotic noisy kid at ALL but she sees people making fun of him for reading slowly or something like that and she likes bullies EVEN LESS than she likes silas heap so she sits next to him in kindergarten and helps him with written work and nobody dares bully him after that
or someone says something racist abt marcia to silas when theyre kids expecting silas to agree just because he’s white and silas sees red and like, hits them or something and later on goes to marcia and is like, im sorry u have to deal with this, and she’s like ????? but somehow they become friends
what i’m trying to say is - silas and marcia may not have a lot of things in common, but they both have Really Big Hearts, okay. they have really big hearts and they have 0 tolerance for bigotry and they both love children and neither of them would watch injustice and do nothing (i think marcia would be Louder about social justice and silas might Not draw as much attention to himself, but he would also Not Be Passive when things go wrong because despite not always knowing what to do, silas always wants to help/ do the right thing)
and they would be good friends, i feel. silas would SEE MARCIA OVERWORKING HERSELF and be like wtf marcia go to bed. and marcia wouldn’t ever let silas trashtalk himself because excuse me silas only one person gets to call you a dumpsterbrain and that’s ME. and they’re both intelligent in different ways, like, yes marcia is intellectually and academically smart af, but silas parented 7 kids / 8 kids and they all turned out (mostly) okay which takes a DIFFERENT kind of intelligence, an emotional intelligence, so like. if they got along they would make such a formidable and solid team.
