Agreed. I've been trying to kind of get my mind around it, but I think you're right, I think it was just a bad writing decision. Having rewatched it, I think almost everyone was at least a little out of character. I'm just not sure what to think. I hope they clear up a lot of this in the next episode

I hope so! A popular theory running around right now is that it was part of Sherlock’s ‘recurring dream’ and that’s why it’s so weird but I have no idea, guess we just have to wait until next week.

Sorry this is super random but I saw your post earlier and I'm just wondering, do you really think John cheating on Mary was totally out of character? I thought so too at first but idk because he never really did trust her again after the whole shooting sherlock thing. It was clear that their relationship was off after that, and I honestly don't think he ever forgave her or saw their relationship the same way after that. So I can kind of start to see it. But idk. What were your thoughts on it?

I do think it is because we never saw John as anything other than a serial monogamist and he seemed to love Mary enough to throw away the flash drive. I do see your point though their relationship did become a bit off when he found out she was lying. From what I’ve seen of John I thought it was odd he’d do something like that to his wife, I’m also rather mad at him as well so that influenced my opinion. I feel like putting the cheating in the story was to give John more grief about Mary’s death which I thought was a misguided writing choice.
