Update: We now have green tomatoes! 😎
On both the 'Malinowy Ożarowski' plants, in fact. I was a little surprised that the first blooms to open are the ones with only one teensier fruit visible now, but relieved to see any tbqh.
Only one cluster each so far, but more blooms have been coming out and some of those are open. Hopefully shouldn't be that long before it sets more fruit. *fingers crossed*
Now, to wait for some to start ripening! It has been warm verging on hot for this climate, and the plants are in that half-assed greenhouse to conveniently help keep them toastier. So, with any luck that won't take ages.
I kept getting amazed at how long even smaller-fruiting short season varieties took to ripen, growing them outside around London. 😒 This current setup had got to be some level of improvement!
Not quite there yet with the 'Maskota' cherry tomatoes--at least AFAICT right now without getting down in the floor to look. But, those do both seem to be growing and blooming well too! 😁
Guessing we might still get some ripe off of those before the non-cherry kind, though. They're supposed to produce pretty heavily, which is the opposite of a surprise dealing with cherry tomatoes.
(I am also kinda hoping to try making some little bite-sized brine pickled green tomatoes later on, too. Haven't tried tiny whole fried ones, come to think of it, as many end of season green tomatoes as we kept ending up with in that British climate. Can't see why that wouldn't be good, tbh.)
I went ahead and gave them all some Algomin liquid tomato feed the other day. (One of the seaweed-based types, AFAICT. Unless these Swedes are getting industrious with other types of algae.) Hopefully all those trace minerals will help make for yummier tomatoes! Pretty much have to be better than what you can buy, regardless.
