Nakmor Kesh being such a fantastic deconstruction of the problem created by the trilogy, in which the only woman krogan character is literally just the Madonna part of the Madonna/whore dichotomy, beamed directly into your eyeballs. Complete with the most important aspect of her existence being her literal fucking fertility, lol, jfc, wtf, etc, etc. And then there are no other krogan women you meet... In the entire trilogy.

Meanwhile Kesh is the FIRST krogan you meet in the Andromeda game – a character with a three-dimensional personality and narrative/social role. Who shoulders the burden of her people's survival, but through leadership, and her ability (or inability) to cooperate with others. Who has opinions and competencies. Who has familial relationships with men of her species (her uncle Drack) which is something other than just based around sex or gender-based ideas of patriarchal ownership.

I mean, she's smart and wry and snarky and principled. I'd already love her even if all this other stuff wasn't true, but

CONFESSION:

Bought the game during the lock down and regret listening to the haters. Its definitely not perfect but most of the characters are just as great as the Trilogy crew. I really fell in love with Vetra. And I absolutely loved the Nomad. And I ended up writing some fluffy fan fiction of my Ryder and Vetra really enjoying riding the dunes on Elaaden. And Vetra was the only crew member allowed to drive the Nomad. I'm to afraid to share my Ryder but I'm including a screenshot that inspired the fan fic I I wrote.

I tried explaining to my dad that under representation of LGBT characters in video games can make you feel really alienated in society and makes you feel companies only tolerate LBGT fans rather than actually try and accommodate everyone. 

He responded by declaring that gays are too ‘whiny’ and if ‘they’ have representation, then it’s unfair that white supremacists aren’t represented and that companies shouldn’t put up with gay bullying and if that doesn’t show how straight people don’t even see LGBT people as normal everyday people and that gays being seen as equal is completely alien to them,  then what the fuck is? 

When we say that being cut out from a fundamental part of a video game is unfair, all they hear is us ‘whining’ and ‘bullying’ straight people.

Fuck straight people.
