How much noise do birds make at night? I used to have a hamster and it drove me up the wall with its constant noise at night. Are birds really loud all the time? Are there certain breeds that make less noise? Thank you!!
No animal is loud all the time. But the bigger birds, like macaws, cockatoos, and African greys, can loose screams to rival small human children. ”The bigger, the louder” is a good rule of thumb for pet birds in general. We are definitely not hamsters, though. Most of us like to sleep at night, like normal diurnal animals. Hamsters, I think, are naturally nocturnal creatures.
My crew, parrotlets, are relatively quiet birds. We’re good apartment buddies. My loudest squawk is barely audible through a wall. Budgies seem to be pretty quiet too (although, you know, they’re horrible things with demons inside of them so I dunno how much you really want one of those).
With all that said, please don’t pick a bird as a pet solely based on its noise level. You should evaluate whether or not you can appropriately care for one before you make the leap. It’s a big deal, and we live a lot longer than most of you humans seem to expect.
