Lords and Muses: Theory Time
Okay, this is a long time coming.
Lords and Muses, whoo boy, I have my own thoughts on these guys and like, I FEEL like everyone’s wrong(including me) but I’ll go with me being right for the sake of self confidence. Now let’s cut the ADD and get on with it
Lords are one of the Master classes. The Active Define class.
Defines [Aspect] and Defines through [Aspect]
Ambition- Let’s look at the little pest Caliborn shall we? Lords are Ambitious, as noted with Caliborn wanting infinite power as well as destruction. This Ambition simply depends on the Lord, it could be Long term or short term(as in having big ideas whenever you get free reign on a project) whether they acquire this depends on the Lord’s skill level as well.
Confidence- Lords are incredibly self confident, this is one of their Childhood traits, it may whither for a little while(likely just temporary or the Lord needs some help from allies) or it may hold strong. Either way, in the End, Lords view themselves as awesome, or at least not as un-awesome as they view everyone else(basically self loathing narcissism or healthy confidence)
Theme- Lords often have a theme, no matter how small. It could be something as simple as “high friend” or “class clown” or something as complex as “Billiards based Mafia boss” What it is depends on the Lord and their aspect. This thusly makes it... a little hard for one to make aesthetics unless they simply go by the attitude of the Lord. Speaking of which...
Attitude- Lords are often very excitable and ready to go. If they are a fighting kind they will fight you over their favorite soda if you try and take it. And by this, I mean sock you in the mouth. They may also hold a grudge forever if they aren’t the kind to put up their dukes. Either way, Lords are incredibly extreme and you gotta be patient if you wanna be their friend haha. They are also a little stubborn as shown in the next point.
Argumentative- Due to being one of the Definers, Lords can get a little up in their own heads and be a little TOO confident in their ideas. They often have a bit of a “I’m always right” because they put so much thought into it. They also may have limited evidence thus making them get more pissed when they’re wrong(this part is a little more about a starting Lord, rather than a realized one)
Define- This is their go to and strongest ability, it has a pretty good cooldown for small things, not too long and easy to activate. They can change symbols of their aspect to try and get an edge. So if a Lord of Hope uses swords and treats them as if they are relics of God, then Hope will integrate them. This also applies to all classes, so if the Lord of Hope has Swords for a meaning, Jake also has the ability to summon swords for others to use for example.
Invoke- a Trait of their passive being Muse, this is their quickest summoning ability but much weaker than the Muse’s version. a Lord’s Invoke involves making something be so inherently their aspect that it gains the strength of their aspect. If anyone has a name better please tell me in ask.
The Beast- This allows them to summon their aspect as a creature or turn into their creature for a measly 10 seconds or so(depending on the strength of the Lord) the smaller the animal, the more time. Most often goes with turning into the creature.
These are simply the Main abilities I attribute to them
(Not the Greek ones, but you’re on the right track)
Invokes [Aspect] and Invokes through [Aspect]
Capricious- The Muse is less Ambitious than the Lord but it shows. Muses often have grand ideas like the Lord but unlike them, they are less likely to act upon them. A Muse may second guess themselves a lot, but only to make sure they’re going the right way so to speak, not because they think their judgement is wrong.
Determined- When a Muse finally makes a decision they often are incredibly steadfast and determined to get it done. They aren’t super obviously ready to work, but they are 100% sure to not wait too long.
Rulebound- The Muse is the kind of person to try and have things fit together, but they aren’t necessarily bound to the rules of others. A Muse of a more active Aspect may be incredibly bound to their rules but may converse with others on the non-Muse’s rules to maybe reach a compromise(where as a Lord wants it their way but may be willing to reach compromise as a last resort)
Debating- Muses are the kind to politely debate with you on certain things but are otherwise quite agreeable when you don’t push their buttons. They are incredibly open to new ideas and will think about yours for a while before either taking it into their headcanon or rejecting it.
Emotional- Muses, like Lords work on extremes. A Muse may be the kind of person to go passive aggressive and are the masters of the dreaded Cold Shoulder if they are not aggressively trying to fix the situation. Basically try to keep track of the situation with your Muse friends and try to keep track of your buttons and their buttons cause they can also take it wrong if they are bursted at.
Invoke- This skill comes in two forms. A Muse is only able to have one of these two forms depending on their personality. The Muse CAN NOT gain the other ability through levelling up.
Charm- The Invoke: Charm ability is indeed quite simple but incredibly versatile. The Charm skill involves becoming the physical source of your aspect. You essentially invoke your aspect in an aura around you, this may allow simple untouchable structures such as words or pictures but nothing to the scale of Shape. Charm allows the Muse to use the effects of their aspect and status conditions to gain an edge.
Shape- The Invoke: Shape ability is a little more complex than it’s Charm cousin. Shape allows the Muse to create structures of solid aspect energy. These structures can be used to defend the Muse or attack. They can also be used to fit the Muse’s needs(give the Muse a chair if they have tired legs). The Shape ability makes you incapable of having your aspect affect you for the benefit of allowing it to affect others. The Shape gives a status effect when causing damage.
Define- This Ability is due to being the Passive counterpart to the Lord. Unlike the Lord who can simply incorporate the object or theme into their lives. The Muse can only do it with the passion for that object or theme not because they want it to be apart of their aspect. So a Muse of Doom could have a passion for heights and bottomless pits and those would be added to Doom, but if the Muse only wants the ability to control height to make themselves taller, then it will be ignored.
Menagerie- This is the passive counterpart to the Lord’s The Beast Ability. It summons a small collection of creatures(or objects) that are weaker than the Beast but more diverse and they are also sentient rather than being pure aspect power.
The Beast and Menagerie abilities summon monsters at first but as soon as the Lord or Muse collects one of their minions then the abilities will summon their minions or transform into their bodies instead.
Disclamer: The Lord nor Muse has to have all of these traits at the start, if you have most of them and can not attribute it to your aspect then you may be an early development Lord or Muse
