Nekrozon: "Found only in the wilderness (usually in swampy areas), the terrible nekrozon resembles a huge buffalo with a long neck and boar's head. The gaze of a nekrozon is a 60' long magical death ray." (Jeff Easley illus, from Dungeons & Dragons Master DM's Book compiled by Frank Mentzer, TSR, 1985)
The nekrozon clearly began as AD&D's catoblepas, reworked for the legally distinct D&D rule system that was developed parallel to AD&D for two decades.
Sasquatch dwell deep within dark woods and in high mountains. (Jeff Easley illus, from Dungeons & Dragons Master DM's Book compiled by Frank Mentzer, TSR, 1985) You'll find them everywhere in the US Pacific Northwest, mostly on tourist souvenirs, beer labels, chainsaw log art, and hanging out in Portland coffee shops.
Flight to the Star Kingdoms -- The party commands a fleet of ships at sea, passing through a magical storm into a void between worlds (Valerie Valusek, D&D module M1: Into the Maelstrom, TSR, 1985)
Belthar is a land of high mountains and green valleys perched atop a planet shard. Rivers reaching the rim fall into the void miles below, forming clouds that rise back up above the land. A secret cavern holds the Belthan war fleet, 30 galleys pulled by blue dragons. (Valerie Valusek, D&D module M1: Into the Maelstrom, TSR, 1985)
Pole Arms (Mentzer’s D&D Master Players’ Book, TSR, 1985) with various variant spellings
Level 26 -- You ride the dragon (Larry Elmore, D&D Master DM’s Book by Frank Mentzer, TSR, 1985)
