Prestige Class Spotlight: Master of Storms
None can deny the natural fury of the elements, especially not the power of the weather, which is such a prevalent part of the natural world as to be all-pervasive, save in the deepest underground. Even the deep oceans have their own weather of a sorts, currents, and tidal action and the like.
In any case, only a fool would trifle with the power of a storm, but the wise can draw benefits from such upheaval and destruction. These masters of the storms come all walks of life, but they draw from the same power.
Unlike the many forms of druid or cleric that focus on the power of the weather, this discipline seems to be universal in its mystic association, allowing nearly any spellcaster to partake in its power should they choose to. This may be due to its origins in the studies and life nearby the Eye of Abendego in Golarion, or any place where storms both supernatural and natural are prevalent.
In both the air and the water, these mystics are naturals at moving through both elements. Furthermore, the conditions of natural weather become paltry to them, allowing them to remain focused. The power of lightning nor the boom of thunder cannot sway them, and the forces of electricity and sound do little to them as a result.
Be it mist, fog, or even silt and sand in the water, no such obscuring factors affect the supernatural sight of these mages.
Emulating certain elementals, they can even transform themselves into whirling masses of air or water, becoming whirlwinds and vortexes, swallowing up and injuring their foes. As they grow in power, so too do the size and force of their storm shape.
Powerful winds can tear into structures, and scatter those caught in them like leaves. These mystics shed an aura of calm winds to compensate, warding themselves and others against the force of the winds.
Moving quickly in water comes naturally to these spellcasters, aided by the waves to move all the quicker.
Peals of thunder are common for these mystics, so they ward their ears against being deafened by loud noises and other sources.
Eventually, they harness the lightning and the cold of the deep sea, bringing greater harm to those trapped in their whirling form.
They also ignore the effects of normal wind and rain, as well as resisting magical forms of the same.
Even the winds leap to protect them, redirecting attacks away from them with precise gusts.
Acting as a resonator and capacitor for thunder and lightning, they can turn the resisted and absorbed power and redirect it at another foe.
Eventually, their power becomes so great that they become true masters of wind and wave, able to transform at will, fly, breath underwater, and even ignore water resistance during battle.
Looking for a master of the wind and wave, but don鈥檛 necessarily want to pick an archetype, bloodline, domain, and so on to do so? Or perhaps you want to enhance the abilities of such specializations? This prestige class can be quite useful there. In any case, this prestige class perfectly complements a caster that travels on or below the waves, complementing their abilities with those suited for their environment. No matter your build, try using your storm shape as a form of control, trapping foes and moving them with you into prepared kill zones.
Storm-masters of all stripes are usually regarded as intense, sometimes manic personalities, which makes sense, really. Many will vary between that manic-ness and the calm before and after the storm. Others may eschew that stereotype entirely. Either way, masters of the storm seek out power over the weather for a reason, even if only to further their power and understanding.
The Teeth of Eirgloss is notorious for both the hull-tearing reefs and the powerful storms that drive the vessels into them. What really makes them dangerous, however, is the cult of the Sea-Eater that dwells in those waters. Worshipping a mythical Charybdis of island-swallowing might, this cult consists of sahuagins, adaro, and even degenerate merfolk, and many of their number practice mystic arts to become one with the storm and the wave.
When the summer rains come to the Haelgon Plains, so too do the boggards. Lurking in hibernation during the dry seasons, the frog-men rise from the muck when the flood waters rise. The bounty on boggards triples in the first few weeks every year, but adventurers beware, some of the oldest boggards got that way by embracing the power of the very rains that give them life.
