Tatbir
A while ago I came across a post on Facebook calling tatbir a cultural practice and here was my comment on it.
“I beg to differ. Where did you read that it’s a cultural practice and not a religious one? Just like Matam, zanjeer zani and qama are to give pursa to Bibi Syeda (a.s.), Imam Hussain (a.s.) and Ahlulbayt.
On a second note, people will always make comments. People make fun of our matam and some have made it into parodies. Does that stop us? No. Why? Because we want to give pursa to the Ahlulbayt. It’s very personal to us. Just like that, if someone wants to practice tatbir to give pursa then it’s their choice.
Thirdly, throughout people have presented all different sorts of images of Shia.
I have tried my level best to always present what a good Shia should look like. But when it comes to giving pursa to Ahlulbayt, the situation becomes very sensitive and personal! Hence, everyone should be left up to their own way of giving pursa. Some want to donate blood and some want to do tatbir but none should be called out for presenting a wrong image. To each their own.”
I also want to mention that if we Shias want to be united, we need to accept different views within our community and accept it unless their actions are harming someone. I believe tatbir and even matam should be done by choice. If a parent is forcing their child to do tatbir or matam then that is totally wrong.
What is your take on it?

NEW: Gathering in a place after a funeral to receive condolences and provide food - By Shaikh Muhammad Ibn Sālih Al-'Uthaimīn and Shaikh Al-Albāni
Question: The people have started taking liberties in the affair of condolences. So when a person dies, the people gather and food is prepared for them, and sacrifices are made. And when we say something to them, they respond: “The people are visiting us, are we not to feed them?” And when we caution them against sitting to receive condolences, they respond, “Where are we to host the people?” The…
