Imam al-Sadiq (a.s.) said, ‘He who places his trust in three things is indeed deluded he who believes in the impossible, relies on someone who cannot be trusted, and avidly desires that which he does not possess.’ [Ghurar al-Hikam, no. 319]

“If you are unable to mourn the killing of Imam Hussein (as), find a dark corner in your home and sit there. Then place your hands on your face (like one who is weeping) and recite a eulogy for our mother Fatima (as) lamenting Imam Hussein (as)”
— Imam Al Ridha (as)
The above is a reported tradition of the Imam (as). It was advice for the Shia who were unable to hold majalis for Imam Hussein (as) due to the Abbasids banning Shia congregations.
Today we also cannot attend. The Imam encouraged us to mourn at home so that we never forget how to weep for Hussein (as), nor forget how important Muharram is.
For it is a promise we have made to our mother, Zahra (SA)
