Eurovision is a bust for the third year running, so I will not be reviewing any of the participating acts this year. That said, Spain is still hosting its former preselection show, Benidorm Fest, despite having withdrawn over the EBU's commitment to whitewashing Israel's genocide. It would be a shame if Benidorm Fest lost hype because RTVE did the right thing, so I'm going to promote their acts instead.
Up next is "Mataora" by Rosalinda Galán
Electro-Flamenco is always the vibe. "Mataora" transitions flawlessly between its more traditional and more modern sections. This is another song that could challenge for the win by winning over both audiences and jurors.
The lyrics seem to be discussing the contradictions of the "girl boss" concept. There is power in it, yes, but also backlash and isolation. So you can get through that glass ceiling only to be thrown back down with no one to catch you. It's very poetic and something that needs to be discussed more given how hard the girl boss narrative was pushed for so long.
The music video can give us some hints about Rosalinda Galán's probable styling. I think she will also have a group of women as her backing dancers. Obviously, we will see some flamenco dancing given the genre. I can't imagine the performance will disappoint.
