I think its why Flinx intrigues me.
see, most ships i like, like almost all of them consist of canonical/universal fanon agreement of will-they-won't theys, slowburns to relationships, some even friends with benefits, but essentially lots of dangling carrots which ends with a kiss and them being together at the end in a neat little bow. heck I admit, I avoid established relationships tags because the conflict is always trying to separate them with cheap misunderstandings or miscommunication and such. (and i hated that, because its very soap opera-ish most of the time)
when TT03 ended, counting the companion comic, Flinx already got together for real, so if you're following canon closely as I am, you can either explore the build up to it or the aftermath after everything.
of course Flinx can do the slowburn, will-they-won't-they with the light enemies-to-lovers aspect, but what i find interesting is the aftermath. when they're together.
this is a type of ship that kinda goes against what I commonly favor because I used to believe "Whats the point if the ship's canon? There's nothing to explore anymore except just separating them for conflict"— oh how shallow i've been for the past decade in shipdoms because, at least with Flinx, theres soooo much to explore just through the characters as individuals alone and how they both would face those personal hurdles together, making their bond all the more stronger with it.
you can break them up, I guess, lots of fics who dgaf about them as individuals do that but the idea of them opening up, staying together despite everything, working things out, choosing to be vulnerable, and healing from pain together feels very comforting to explore. theres complexities in each of them you can deconstruct, common traits in other universes that KF has a rough home life and the weight of Flash/Speedforce legacy of it all, Jinx's experience with the HIVE or Brother Blood's cult and her bad luck upbringing that made her doubt her path in life, choices that lead to her redemption arc so on.
they're so different, from the surface theres as if no similarities between them, but they still try to understand each other, support each other, and find common grounds. this specifically is what I extract from how KF is characterized from TT03 alone, he's a listening ear, he offers other solutions, he'd help carry the weight together, same with Jinx in the companion comic being protective of him, would push aside her differences with Raven for his well-being, the vulnerability (i'd say even character development for her) that is claiming it's her fault he's hurt— god.
or if we're bringing the Darkseid or destiny or multiple consistent realities of it all, choosing to go against fate and work for their happy ending, its so powerful to me.
not counting the other things like growing up, secret identities, domestic lives, families, everything thats usually in timeskip or an epilogue in most other ships, I get to explore that with Flinx.
they're together, but its not the end of their story, there's more conflicts ahead and they face them hand-in-hand.
gotta admit, liking them even more for the past year make me tolerate the "established relationship" fic tag haha. its why I like them veery much, its why i'm disappointed people forgot about them, make them a filler/afterthought pair, or doesn't care much.
well I care very much, i'll help people remember them, fondly this time, with little to no mischaracterization/misinformation.
