One of the donors already got us started with $1k just because they are so confident we will meet the goal, so that means we are only $8k away from him being able to register his whole family for evacuation. Even though the border is currently closed, registration is still open. I follow a telegram channel with real time updates about the border, and the updates are hopeful that the border will open again soon. 

Even if the border were not to open back up, anyone who is fundraising for evacuations still gets their money, and it would just go towards the high survival costs that just get higher everyday!

We hope to be able to get him to meet his goal ASAP so that he can register as soon as the border opens again. If we meet this goal from the matching donors, then we will only be $3k away! 

Mohammed told us a while ago that his Give Butter needs $50k for him to be able to evacuate along with his mother and 5 younger siblings. The amount is more than we thought initially because of the high commissions  that the merchants who control the cash flow take out. Moha says that where he is, the commission is 50%. Warriors in Darkness

Yesterday, Square Enix released the YouTube advert for their Warriors in Darkness campaign. I linked the site when it was announced before the video went up, but I’m reposting with the video - because it’s very well done and explains some things most people don’t realise about what EMS faces.

TL:DR SE’s doing a matching donations campaign for a foundation that helps out first responders. Is there an element of PR to this? Of course, there is, but that doesn’t make what’s being done by raising the money any less important.

We’re in an area that relies completely on volunteer fire companies. When a fire breaks out in this area, each town within the radius will turn on an air raid siren which is a call to arms for these volunteers. They’re severely underfunded most of the time, often understaffed (compared to what’s needed), and some of the shit they deal with is horrifying. And we’re well aware that most rural areas in the US still use this sort of system.

So while we can’t give much, mum’s having me donate a little of her SSI cheque to this campaign.
