matchmaker is hysterical to me.

there's many specific characters/sub group of Cybertronians that get like touched by one of the 13 Primes and afaik, Vector is one of the few who hasn't done it in any way but knowong one version of Vector decided to give it to this one shipper who ends up using it to talk to people in Quadwal just to discuss ships and it's great

If there's one thing I know how to do, it's make a good joke character

When I showed my sib this ask, we were both wheezing over the mental image of Vector being like "I will bestow upon this child of Primus the gift of my power. They shall do great things" and then you just hard cut to Matchmaker adding new images to their shipper conspiracy board lmao

tbh matchmaker gives vaguely aroace vibes because feels like everyone who has ever asked them out they've already shipped with someone else and can't ruin the OTP and too busy shipping others to consider having a crush

When yapping about Matchmaker with my best friend, they said "sounds like they're aegorose," that being someone who is interested in sex and romance- perhaps even experiences attraction of that sort, but disconnected from themself. Like, if they found themself attracted to someone, instead of imagining themself kissing that person (let alone actually trying to do so) they might imagine someone else doing that

This is alongside the fact that Matchmaker isn't exactly... well liked by other mecha. The things they say and do are strange and invasive, so it's understandable that they're seen as offputting. However that does mean that they don't have much experience with knowing that someone finds them attractive

Has Matchmaker ever been disappointed to learn that their OTP didn’t turn out to be true? Or the opposite, that it actually ‘became canon’ irl?

I mean, wouldn't you be? They're not going to be like. Rude or weird about it to the mechs involved, but they might be like "aw, man. they had so much potential!" and pout a little. But they have a pretty decent grasp on Reality VS Fiction (though that's warped a little by just how many Realities they're aware of) and their shipping is primarily fictionalized. They know that a pair of mecha might be purely platonic (or, in the case of certain ones, actually just fucking hate one another), but they like to go What If. There are some ships they have a very firm "I think they should actually go for it" stance, though

On a semi related note, in the continuity they originate from (the AU I share with my sibling, Sparkweave), there's genuine scholarly debate about the nature of the relationship between Prima Prime and Megatronus Prime, the first Matrix Bearer and High Protector respectively. Primal scholars on both sides get really heated about it, but if you asked Matchmaker about whether these Actual Real Primes were in a romantic relationship they would say "Does it matter? If they were, then they had a reason for never making that public knowledge. Now, in the two million word slowburn fanfiction by MegaFanboy16-"

As for their ships becoming Canon IRL, oh they celebrate so hard. When/If one of their OTPs get conjunxed you bet your ass they're sending the newlybonded some gifts.
