concrete softener
In our module about a wide range of materials, I had the chance to do some research about concrete and plaster. The second task was to choose a working title and create something with the chosen material, possibly add a different one. So I wanted to visualize the contrast between raw concrete and a soft woven fabric. The goal was to soften up concrete, give it another character by connecting / partly covering it with a rose blanket.
The concrete surfaces I discovered outdoors and at Toni Areal are so varied and lively once I started to look closer. It is not all grey in grey, sometimes it looks monochrome, another surface has rough marks and a wider color spectrum. In my eyes, the plain rose blanket intensified those character marks whilst also soften the brutal grey mass.
My little intervention was fun. Especially to put a lovely cozy blanket from a living space in rough public spaces where you wouldn’t expect it. To let the textile cover hard edges, hide a structure and float over stairs had something poetic.
MATERIAL CONTRASTING
Material Contrast is one of the easiest ways to play a sophisticated and balanced outfit – Wool, leather, satin, silk, suede or chiffon. // JavaScript is currently disabled in this browser. Reactivate it to view this content. (more…)
