Today I learned...
If your cc patterns are .sims3packs, it’s best to install them via the launcher.

the moment when you have to re-install all your CC
Does any of you have or had the problem with the Create A Style tool? Recently when I want to CAS on something, it keeps saying ‘Materializing Materials’. I’ve waited, and waited... and waited a little more with no luck. All places I’ve looked says I have to use S3PE to find the bad CC. Yea.... thank you so much for nothing. I might have like... a MILLION (exaggeration promotes understanding) in sims3pack files as they are all from TSR.
Seriously.. there’s no way in hell I’m going to convert all my CC to .package files. NEVER! I might save time, but NO.
I’m currently reinstalling all my .sims3pack CC, but does any of you have/had this problem before and solved it?
Hi Eric! I saw you had a post on LivingSims about how to identify and remove bad pattern packages using s3pe. Well I'm having that exact problem but the images you had screenshoted on the post are no longer there so I can't figure out how to do it. If you could, can you perhaps email those images to me? I'd really appreciate the help and thanks!
I have updated this tutorial with more information and all new photos. Hopefully it reads clearer.
I knew shooflee had recently created an awesome CAP pattern set (and specifically alerted everyone to not convert them - doubleplus awesome!) so I have used one in the example to show how a CAP pattern will appear in S3PE. Read the tutorial here
"Materializing Materials"
I downloaded patterns from SimsInSpring and from the other Simblr...
I think it was one of the Tribal Patterns I got from the other simblr... I only forgot what simblr was that
I WAS SURPRISED WITH THE "MATERIALIZING MATERIALS" LOADING BEFORE ENTERING CAST WHILE I WAS MAKING THE HOUSE FOR MY LEGACY OR IDK JUST A RANDOM HOUSE
So I used the task manager to force quit the game
So now I am RECOMPRESSING stuff i downloaded today... I separated the patterns from the other stuff I got for my simmies, like clothes from JS Sims, sims3simsimi, orange sims, sentate, etc.
They're like 300+files :-/
Eh anyway its almost dinner time so its okay I don't have to wait that long
PS. That scumbag loading took forever
And here we go!
I finally got the 'Materializing materials' loop fixed. Thank you Angie for your help. All I had to do was clear my log, clear the cache and rebuild in CC Magic. I got a list of all the files that had the pattern issue. I deleted the files from CC Magic/Content, did another rebuild, and voila!
Materializing Materials loop, please go away.
I've had this error for a while now. I've read that it's caused by patterns being installed as .package files instead of sims3packs. This is so frustrating, I've tried a bunch of stuff but it's still there. I've been using CC Magic to merge my content. Any suggestions or references I can use? Thank you!
Just a note I thought I'd add incase it helps anyone out there:
I have discovered that the CC file named 'gs_lr_chasingrainbows' causes the materializing materials problem ingame. It's a pattern file, not sure where it's sourced from, but just a heads up if you're having the same problem as me with CAS.
PS: Not sure if it's proper name is '0xe396eb5a13c0f58247ce1eabc6cc3bf9.package'.
Edit: Another culprit has been found!
[GS]hanagirlymix or 0x7f28f6b29d6b268d4bad7f260cdfc8e8.package.
