Okay, so like I said before my goal this summer is to become friends with math so to speak.
Anyway, I have already been going through and truly understanding the fundamentals that I missed due to intensely negative associations about math. And I discovered something fundamental about numbers and the number line. Basically that you can visualize the number line when adding or subtracting numbers, and it makes more sense now. Obviously I knew how to add and subtract before today, but this kinda explains how adding and subtracting works, and is pretty helpful when negatives are involved.
Okay so here is an example, first visualize the number line in your head, and lets find the answer to 3 - 5. So basically 5 is the greatest value, so you can start with 5 on the number line, and then go down 3 numbers (take away 3) and get 2. so yeah, it’s possible to rewrite 3 - 5 as 5 + (-3).
It’s just so cool to truly understand how numbers work, so you can manipulate equations and the like in a more flexible way.
