That Mathis Olimb is not an NHLer is beyond me.
Nettavisen has a short interview with Mathis Olimb online. He’s now the sole Norwegian in the KHL, after Patrick Thoresen, Lars Haugen and Jonas Holøs all went to Swedish hockey.
“In terms of the sport, the KHL is hockey at a very high level. All the clubs have players with loads of qualities, a lot of technically skilled players. But there a lot of big players too, which surprised me a bit. So the league is tougher physically than most people give it credit for.”
So far, after five matches, Olimb has only gotten a couple of points, which he hopes will improve over time.
“Yeah I hope for some more goals soon. I mean I do put pucks at the net, so, lets hope more of them find their way into the net *laughs*.”
Apart from that Olimb stresses that Jokerit play a tight relatively defensive style of hockey where the emphasis is on team, rather than individual performances. Something that might be a slight contrast to the more Russian approach in some other clubs.

End of the WC for now.
Norway did a considerably better game vs. Belarus than vs. Denmark. Sadly penalties once again became the story of the match. Most of them were fair, high sticking calls are what they are no matter how random the situation is.
Calling Martinsen for roughing at the end there though, it might be fair, but not calling the Belarus player for cross-checking Olimb into the ice while he’s lying down, that’s weak. Martinsen did the only right thing, watched out for his considerably smaller mate and Norway’s MVP! 5 on 5 I thought Norway was just as good, probably better than the Belarus. But it is the goals that count here.
Generally about the Championship, Norway secured themselves against relegation, Mathis Olimb proved himself more than worthy of his spot with Jokerit in the KHL, Thoresen proved than Djurgården in the SHL has secured themselves a dream contract, and young defense-man Nørstebø has had to have opened an eye or two. Hopefully he can get some attention from better leagues.
I would have felt better with a win vs. Denmark or Belarus, but things are what they are!

Olimb has an assist on 6 of Norway’s 9 goals so far this Championship.
