Hello! I know that you are not in high school anymore and your blog inspires me very much. Could you tell me please what can I do... I have moved to another high school in another country in the tenth grade and I have some problems with math, because of my two last teachers I hate math. I will stay in a dorm and I think that I will not could study every time when I will have to. Sorry for my errors in the message, but I don't know english very well. Greetings from Roumania!

I remember tenth grade, it was tough, but that is the foundation year for the next two and so it is important you learn how to study now otherwise you may find it to be a struggle as you go further with your studies. So it’s awesome that you’re taking the initiative now! Go you!

Maths is a bit of a tricky one. Especially if you don’t have teachers that are encouraging/helpful/don’t have time for you. I’ve been in your situation before but I love maths now, and like I have said in the past, you need to find that intrinsic motivation that makes YOU want to do well. 

Before I get going though, I want to say that everyone studies maths differently and you need to find what works best for you, so I’ll lay out a few options :) Firstly though, be positive! When your looking at your maths homework and it seems like a bunch of jumbled numbers and letters think to yourself, ‘Okay, I got this. We have been through all of this in class, and I am amazing, and smart, and can definitely do this!’ 💪

Your teacher is probably going to become your bestest math buddy in the whole wild world. They hold the all the solutions to your questions. You can’t do a certain problem? Ask them if there is a different way to solve it. That’s the awesome thing about maths, there is almost always a different way to solve stuff!

Work through your homework problems. This is huge. Pull out your textbook and just keep going through problems and problems and more problems. Most learn by doing.

Use the internet! The internet is amazing place (as I have found with the studyblr community ❤️). Use Kahn Academy, they have such wonderful resources for most high school maths units and they work through problems using videos. 

Ask. Don’t expect yourself to learn everything by yourself, your teachers are there to help you be the best student you can be.

Do a little every day. The curve of remembering theorises that you lose what you learn in class unless you consolidate and go over concepts within the first day or so. That means that you should do a little maths every night. Aim to try and get at least 15-20 minutes of solid minutes of problem solving. I found that helped me the most, rather than it coming to Sunday night and me panicking because I have hours of maths ahead of me! 

And use bright colours! Colour your exercise books with nice paper, use pretty pens and make maths a little more exciting 😉
