Downsizing Review #unpopularopinion or I liked it...
Midhat is quite a fan of this film. It has like this strong Pleasentville vibe, especially in the first half, also this low key morality vibe which Midhat quite liked. What Midhat felt quite uncomfortable about is playing the Thai accent for laugh a little too much. Now Midhat isn’t against funny accents, why he loves Malayasians, but it gets to a certain where you think maybe playing the dramatic monologue for laughs was not a good idea. Maybe tonning it down a little would have been better, the film had a lot going for it afterall.
SPOILERS Matt Damon’s character also didn’t seem to have a character arc he went from giving up medicine to help his mother to downsizing for his wife to leaving the cult for the GF. I liked to GF’s character tho, she had the stronger character who recognized the Cult’s ambitions as the selfish actions that lead to humanity in that state anyway. Although realistically she should have been more of a writer to analogies many ppl who escaped oppressive countries who are now writers END SPOILERS.
In conclusion Midhat actually wants to see more stories in this world, like a TV show, just tone down her accent.
