Textiles in Fashion and Beyond Wed, Feb 1, 12–1 PM The exhibition Beauty—Cooper Hewitt Design Triennial showcases the best in international design and includes innovative fashion by notable international designers including Mary Katrantzou, Gareth Pugh, and Giambattista Valli. Matt Gerring, instructor in the School of Fashion Merchandising, Academy of Art University, San Francisco will talk about trends in fabrics and fibers.
Art, Creativity, and the Human Mind Wed, Mar 1, 12–1 PM Art is a powerful means of expressing and organizing our creative thoughts: it has the power to soothe both artist and viewer. Over 80% of the information that enters the human brain does so via the eyes. Inspired by Your Mind, This Moment, neuroscientist Kenneth Wesson will discuss the benefits of art and contemplation.
Water: Essential to Silicon Valley's Past and Future Wed, Apr 5, 12–1 PM In SJMA's trio of exhibitions about water, artists reflect on this valued resource. Early Silicon Valley leaders also recognized that the region's prosperity depends on a reliable water supply. Marty Grimes, supervising program administrator at the Santa Clara Valley Water District, will look at the history of water supply development and the investments that will keep our water safe and reliable for future generations.
Jeanne Falk Adams on Fragile Waters Wed, May 3, 12–1 PM Our oceans, rivers, lakes, and streams are in crisis. Jeanne Falk Adams organized the exhibition Fragile Waters out of concern for these fragile ecosystems. Adams, former director of the Ansel Adams Gallery in Yosemite National Park, will examine the work and conservation activism of Ansel Adams, Ernest Brooks II, and Dorothy Kerper Monnelly.
