bella being so stressed out about a match that she forgets to check blood sugar (I think you mentioned she might be diabetic) and passing out

ooo i don't think i've incorporated this into the plot yet. i think matt would get sooo stressed, especially if he's like not there because of a game or something and someone calls him about it and he's just like what?! is she okay?! where is she now?! has she eaten anything?! she needs to eat something.

but for this fic let's have him be there and like charlie is running into the stands to find him and her mom because bella just passed out on the changing room floor and she needs something

charlie was going on about something from her week while the two girls were in the changing rooms getting ready for the match. bella was nodding along and commenting when she felt necessary, but for some reason charlie's voice felt far away and incomprehensible. she was hearing her talk, but the words weren't making sense in bella's mind.

her whole mind actually felt way too foggy. it had actually been feeling foggy all morning and the brunette couldn't figure out why. bella stood up to grab something from her locker, but as soon as she was on her feet the whole entire floor was spinning in circles and her heart began racing.

she must've stumbled a bit because charlie finally stopped talking. she watched her friend struggle to find her footing, "you good, bell?"

bella couldn't form words so she just nodded. her lack of response though worried charlie. the younger girl stood up to check on her. "shit, you look kind of pale. are you feeling okay?"

"i don't know," bella managed before stumbling even more. charlie tried catching her, but the older girl slipped from her grasp and tumbled to the floor.

"shit. shit. bella? hey, bella? you okay? bella?" charlie shook the girl's shoulder, but now she was completely out. "oh my god. oh my god. shit. shit," charlie scrambled for bella's phone that was in her bag.

she knew her password for emergencies like this one. charlie clicked into the app that was synched to bella's pump. she didn't exactly know what it all meant, but she knew what too low was and right now bella's blood sugar was at 55.

"shit. shit," charlie ran out of the changing room without a second thought.

meanwhile, the stands were packed full and ready to watch an exciting match of tennis. it was a nice day out, so everyone showed up and not a seat was empty as they waited for it to start. matt sat with aiden and bella's mom like usual. the two boys were catching up and not noticing how charlie was basically running towards them and muttering quick apologies to people she ran into.

aiden noticed his sister first, "charlie? what's wrong?"

"i-it's bella. s-she..she passed out in the changing room. i-i don't even..i looked at her blood sugar and it was 55," the younger girl stuttered out in a mess.

"holy shit," matt muttered and was on his feet in seconds. everyone followed charlie back into the building and ran to get to bella where she still laid on the ground unmoving.

bella's mom rushed in first. charlie shook in fear, nervously hanging back while aiden comforted her.

"come on, bell. wake up. wake up," matt gently shook her arm while her mom was looking at her blood sugar again.

"i need her injection. she has one in her bag," mrs. sabre instructed. matt dug through his girlfriend's backpack for her medical emergency supplies.

everything happened so fast. aiden and charlie watched from the doorway while also blocking it so no one else could come in and witness the scene. mrs. sabre knew exactly what to do as she got her daughter's leg ready and then injected the needle. once the needle was in, everyone breathed out a small sigh of relief.

"okay, that should bring her blood sugar back up to wake her up. can one of you go find something with fruit in it like a fruit juice and water?" mrs. sabre asked and aiden was on it.

matt held bella's head in his lap, gently stroking her hair as they waited a few minutes before her eyes began fluttering back open. when bella saw her mom and matt above her she grew confused.

"mom? what happened?"

"hey, it's okay. you passed out, honey. did you know your blood sugar was at 55?" mrs. sabre's voice was soft as she also stroked her daughter's head.

"n-no.." bella mumbled.

"how are you feeling now? can you sit up? aiden ran to get you some fruit juice. let's eat some of these snacks in your bag," matt slowly helped bella into a sitting position. she still looked a bit pale as her mom opened a pack of crackers for her to eat and some fruit snacks.

aiden returned a moment later with juice and water. mrs. sabre thanked him as she opened it up and handed it to bella. the girl was quiet as she took some sips and snacked on the crackers and gummies.

"61. that's good, you're going back up. what happened, babe? did you just forget to check on your blood sugar?" mrs. sabre wondered and bella shyly nodded.

"i've been caught up thinking about the match, i guess i forgot to look at my phone much. i'm sorry," bella mumbled. matt slid his arm around her shoulder, squeezing tight.

"don't apologize. we're just glad you're okay. you're feeling okay now? do you think you can still play?" her mom asked.

"yeah. yeah. i just need to eat like you said," bella nodded.

"you really scared me, bell," charlie said from where she stood by the door.

"i'm sorry, charlie. thank you for getting my mom though," the two girls exchanged smiles.

"i'm gonna see if i can find you some more snacks. just keep sitting and watch your blood sugar," mrs. sabre got up. aiden led her to where he found the juice.

"feeling okay, now?" matt asked her. the brunette nodded.

"yeah, sorry to..make such a scene."

"stop apologizing. you had a lot on your mind today. it's not your fault. i'm glad someone was with you to come find us," matt kissed her temple. she leaned into his side, leaning her head on his shoulder while she continued finishing her snacks.

"i just haven't..haven't done that in so long. i thought i had such a good grip and understanding of my body by now," bella frowned, clearly ashamed she let herself get so low.

matt squeezed her tighter, "don't beat yourself up about it. things happen and it slipped your mind. we're just glad you're okay and that's what matters."

the couple sat there in comfortable silence besides the slight sounds of bella's chewing. she had her ear pressed against his chest and he should hear the thump, thump, thump of his heartbeat. it settled the overwhelming anxiety she felt not just for passing out but the whole day in general.

when it was time for her stand back up, matt helped her to her feet. he held her hands, watching for any stumbling and making sure she had her balance before he let go. she nodded that she did and he slowly let her go.

"you're sure you feel okay to play?" he wondered.

"yeah, i'm fine now. i'll eat one more thing and i should be good," bella nodded.

"okay. glad you're okay. i'm gonna go back out to the stands," he said and the girl nodded.

he leaned forward to press a soft kiss to her forehead, meeting her gaze one more time, "i love you."

"i love you."

matt left the changing room. charlie reappeared, a soft smile on her lips, "feeling better?"

"yeah, much. thank you. sorry for..freaking you out," bella said but the younger girl shook her head.

"don't worry, i'm just glad you're okay. good luck out there," her and charlie exchanged a hug because on the court they were rivals, but anywhere else they were best friends.

"thank you, you too. can't wait to whip your ass," bella teased which indicated she was definitely better.

charlie's eyes widened, "oh you're so on. i was even considering going easy on you after all this."

"yeah, right. you would've used my weakness to my advantage. see you out there, celebrini," bella winked as she left the room to get her things ready.

despite the small scare, the match was a close one, but ultimately, bella proved herself and left with a win against her best friend.

In honor of Matthew signing with the Islanders this week I was thinking that when Matt went to the Mets game and did his signing. Bella was also there for her orientation and did her tour of Columbia one last time before she officially moves there in two weeks. And Bella and Matt have a free day so they just go and explore New York and they are so excited for their future and how lucky they feel that they aren’t doing long distance.

i think i rewrote this blurb like 4 different times, but here's an oldish ask that's been in my drafts and finally finished!!! super excited for bella and matt to be in nyc now and i kind of liked writing about them being on the outside of samy and will's world and what they think of the friend group

in the sea of all his family and friends, matt finally spotted bella talking to one of their close friends, brady, in a corner. the newest new york islander hadn't been able to catch up with her since the party began because every time he took a step in her direction someone else wanted to talk him up and congratulate him. it started becoming quite tiring talking to everyone, so the boy was glad he finally made it to bella without interruptions.

the two noticed him coming and smiled, brady making room for matt to slide in beside bella. the taller boy grinned back, gently kissing bella's temple, "hey you."

"hi. finally sneak away from everyone?" the girl giggled.

"yeah, did you see me trying to get over here for the past hour?" matt hummed, tugging his arm securely around his girlfriend's waist. she flushed at the affection.

"you're the talk of the party. congratulations, by the way. proud of you, man," brady said to his friend. him and matt dapped each other up.

"thanks, man. i appreciate it. thanks for coming all the way out here," brady had been a longtime friend of the couple for quite awhile, so it was special having him out in new york with them to celebrate one of matt's biggest accomplishments.

"you know i'd always show out for you. plus, i gotta see what this city's all about since it's taking two of my best friends. i'll let you two be for awhile," the blonde winked as he walked away.

matt rolled his eyes a bit, but turned to face bella more. she smiled up at him again and giggled as he adjusted her mets hat she had on. "how are you?" the boy wondered.

"i'm good. i guess i've also been making my rounds. i talked to your aunt and cousins earlier and then i was talking with your other aunt and then i was talking with brady for a bit."

"have say said anything riveting? or embarrassing about me?" matt laughed. even though bella knew his family very well by now, he still worried one his cousins would say something embarrassing.

"uh..let's see.." bella pretended to list off the things people said. matt playfully rolled his eyes again and tugged her into his side.

"shut up," the boy mumbled.

"i'm just kidding. nothing i haven't heard before. they're all really proud of you and kept saying how lucky i was," the tennis player squeezed her boyfriend's arm. a soft flush coated his cheeks.

"you know i'm the lucky one. i get to play on an nhl team and be in a place with you still around. plus, you're the one going to columbia in the fall. i definitely am the lucky one," the taller boy grinned and now it was bella's turn for pink cheeks.

"we're both lucky how about? i was thinking we could go explore the city tomorrow after my mom and i do my orientation. your family has been telling me about all of these places we need to check out now that we're in new york."

"sounds like a date," matt kissed her forehead and then pulled her back into the crowd so they could do another lap together.

bella met up with matt at the hotel after her orientation. the hockey player was already down in the lobby waiting when she came through the doors. "hi matt," bella's mom waved.

"hi mrs. sabre. how was it?" he stood up.

"it was so good. i'm so eager to move-in," bella gushed and started showing her boyfriend all of the things she got which was a t-shirt, bag, water bottle, and one of those card holders for the back of her phone.

"bella said you two are gonna explore?" mrs. sabre wondered and the couple nodded.

"sounds fun. be safe and stick together," the older woman reminded them.

"yeah, i know mom. i'll see you later," bella kissed her mom's cheek and handed her things over so she could just take them up to the room.

"bye, mrs. sabre," matt waved she walked to the elevator. "so you really liked it?" he turned back to bella as they walked back outside.

"i loved it. i'm already excited. i think it's gonna be good. plus, they were telling us about the trains and it'll be so easy for you to come visit or me come visit you on weekends," it seemed like the tennis player had it all figured out. matt couldn't help his grin as he intertwined their fingers and figured out their first stop for the afternoon.

they weren't kidding about new york being the city that never sleeps. it was a long, long way from ottawa and even erie, but just watching and listening to bella talk about all of the things she was looking forward to once she moved in matt knew she'd have no problem fitting in. she was definitely a city girl at heart.

bella led matt into a bakery that immediately smelled of sweetness as soon as they stepped inside. "your aunt was telling me about this place yesterday," bella explained.

the couple went to the glass where they could see all the baked goods made for the day. "these look delicious," matt hummed, eyeing almost everything and wishing he could try it all.

"it smells delicious too. wanna try the banana bread?" bella pointed to the loaf. the hockey player nodded.

"could we have two pieces of the banana bread, please?" bella ordered for them and matt was quick to pay before she could even think about it. the girl blushed.

"thank you," she thanked matt and the worker when he handed them their pieces. they sat at an open table by the window.

"let's take a bite at the same time," bella said so her and matt held up their pieces and slowly bit into them. both of their expressions turned into awe and satisfaction. banana bread was one of matt's favorites.

"this is definitely becoming one of my top favorites," the boy mumbled through his chewing.

"wow, i never thought anything could bump your grandma's banana bread," bella giggled.

"me neither, but this is really good. i'm very satisfied," the boy determined.

once they finished, they didn't really have any set plans to see anything specific, so they decided to just wander the city. they eventually ended up in central park and found an empty bench to just sit and take everything in.

"god, i still can't believe this is real," matt said.

"it's crazy, right? look how far you've come," bella rubbed his shoulder and the boy smiled. he thought about his mom and how proud she would've been.

"i dreamt of this becoming my life so many times and i like can't believe it's reality now. couldn't have done it without you," the boy found bella's gaze with a soft smile. his cheesy words made her blush.

"you did this all on your own, matt. i was just there," bella shrugged.

the hockey player wrapped his arm around her shoulder so she could lean in closer. their gazes watched everyone walk by and enjoyed how everyone seemed to be in their own little world doing their own thing. they didn't even realize there was a familiar face in the mix until his curly dark hair stood out and matt sat up a bit more.

"wait a minute..is that?.." he trailed off as he looked closer at the guy he noticed. bella raised her eyebrow, following her boyfriend's gaze.

"who?"

"i think that's gabe perreault.." matt said but bella still didn't know who that was. her boyfriend stood up though so she followed as they carefully walked up to the familiar stranger.

"gabe?" matt said carefully.

the older boy looked up, eyes on the couple. he looked them over like he had no idea who they were until he did recognize them on his second look over.

"matt schaefer? woah, no way," gabe's confusion was replaced with a smile as the boys dapped each other up.

"hey man, good to see you. sorry for the weird approach, but i saw you and had to come say hi."

"hey, no worries. it's cool to officially meet. congratulations by the way. welcome to the nhl," gabe chuckled and matt smiled.

"thank you, thank you. i am super excited to get on the ice soon. this is my girlfriend, bella. she's also gonna be in new york at columbia," the brunette waved to the older boy in front of her.

"woah, that's sick. congrats to you too. well, i'm here as you know so..i guess if you both ever need anything, i'm just in a different borough," the older boy laughed.

"thanks, i appreciate that. the city has been awesome. we've been walking around all day," matt said.

"yeah, there's a lot to look at, but it gets easy to understand after a few weeks," gabe chuckled again.

the three continued talking until gabe had somewhere to be so they parted ways for now. matt took bella's hand in his again as they continued walking for more sightseeing. "he knows james hagens if you remember meeting him at the draft, so he's friends with samy hughes and will and ryan and all of them," matt explained the connections.

"oh, okay, yeah and mack knows them all too. that makes sense. what a small world," bella chuckled.

"super small. they're all super nice though. super close, too. they've all been friends for like years. i think i remember hearing something about all of them hanging out in the summer at samy's lake house," matt hummed.

"oh, wow. guess we better get our in sometime then?" they shared a laugh.

"guess so. i kind of have one already though because i made friends with blaire...maybe she'll put in a good word for us."

for the rest of the day, matt and bella explored the city together and got know their home for the next four years.

for matthew i could definitely see childhood best friends and dating young maybe they were neighbors since they were babies and she’s there for him for everything and maybe she had some very hard things in her life that he was there

ooo i kind of like this. it's kind of the same vibe as the mack + blaire au..

i've always liked field hockey and i haven't had anyone play field hockey yet so i think that could be fun where she's played field hockey her whole life and then plays on a club team + wants to go to school for it

someone also suggested tennis so maybe her and matthew play in their free time and it's the one thing they like to do together :)

any name suggestions? for some reason bella is speaking to me. like isabella or isabel and she goes by bella. i think this could cook and i can wrap it into my au fic universe i've created HAHA

wait what about matt schaefer and blarie friendship because they definitely understand each other a lot

waitttt ur so right. they totally would understand each other and the feeling of losing a parent so young. i feel like blaire wouldn't really know him, but mack would kind of so he'd introduce them and blaire would find out that he lost his mom too, so she'd tell him she gets the feeling and it would be a cute friendship moment.

like maybe they'd meet sometime before the draft and blaire just instantly gets it like great athlete in their sport, but it's hard when they don't have a mom cheering them on. i think i saw somewhere that matt does it all for his mom like how blaire does skating for her mom and dedicates a lot to her mom, so they'd really understand each other in that way.

or maybe too that matt feels a lot of pressure about being so good and everyone talking about him that he wishes he had his mom around still, so blaire comforts him and offers advice on how she gets through tough moments like that. either way, i think they would have a cute friendship.
