Like he would be like "I forgot it in the car can you go grab it for me?" And it's left sitting open so she undeniably sees it then subtly brings it up in conversation! au masterlist
hannah followed her boyfriend into the house, carefully dropping the bags of groceries onto the counter once they reached the kitchen. his mom smiled, "thanks for going out for me. hopefully it wasn't too much."
"you're welcome. i think that was the last of it," james smiled and hannah nodded. she started to unpack everything and help put it all way, not noticing how her boyfriend patted his pockets in search of something.
"shit, i think i left my wallet in the car," he mumbled, catching the girl's attention.
"i can grab it," hannah stood up.
"are you sure? i can just run back out," james said but the gymnast shook her head. it would take two seconds and she was closer to the door anyway. "i don't mind. i'll be right back."
she swiped the keys off the counter and made her way back outside. hannah hummed to herself, feeling chipper and energetic. she didn't really know why, but she had been in a happy mood all morning—really since her and james got to his house last night.
maybe it was because she knew kristine and michael well now and wasn't a stranger to them or their home like she felt a little bit last summer. her and james had been together over a year now and she wasn't just some girlfriend anymore. she knew what to expect and wasn't worried about trying to gain their approval.
hannah unlocked her boyfriend's car, opening the front door and scanning her eyes across the cup holders for his wallet. she found it laying open on her seat, probably leaving it there when he went to grab the bags of groceries. she reached for it, but stopped when she noticed a familiar looking picture in the spot where his driver's license usually was.
her own bright smile stared back at her while she processed the fact that james had a photo of her in his wallet. it was her most recent media day headshot for the athletics page. she didn't even know how or when james printed it out and put it into his wallet, but just looking at it there made her chest feel warm and fuzzy. she couldn't stop thinking about how he took the time to do that and have it there so he'd always see her.
after the initial shock, hannah finally closed the car and headed back to the house knowing james was waiting. her mood felt even brighter than before.
when she got back inside, him and his mom had almost all of the groceries put away. "found it. it was on the seat," she handed it to him.
"how obvious. thank you," he pecked the top her head.
she did what she could to help with the last of the groceries before kristine shooed them away to do whatever. it was nice out and all the new bruins rookie could talk about was getting into the pool while they were at the store, so the two ran up to his room to change.
"wait, sunscreen," hannah reminded before her boyfriend dashed outside. he pouted, rolling his eyes slightly as he walked back to her. he was such a kid at heart sometimes.
"i hate that you're skin concious," he muttered which made the younger duke sister laugh.
"hey, i'm just trying to protect you from skin cancer," she shrugged, rubbing the cream into his skin.
james rubbed in the areas hannah couldn't quite reach, but she watched him to make sure he did it correctly and not half-assed. a soft laugh escaped his lips seeing her focused expression. "you're watching me like a hawk."
"i'm making sure you're doing it right," the girl countered.
"you sound like my mom."
"hey, that's a good thing! sunscreen is important!" kristine called from what she overheard in the kitchen. the couple laughed though.
"let me do you since you did me," james took the bottle from her, squeezing some onto his hand.
hannah pulled her hair to the side, a soft smile on her lips while james started rubbing it into her shoulders. she jumped a little from how cold it was at first. "sorry," he muttered.
he rubbed it in how he knew she would like it, his hands careful and gentle down her shoulders and over her back. she was still thinking about her picture in his wallet—wondering if she should mention it or just let it be.
"okay, your back and shoulders are good," james determined after a moment.
"thank you. you're free to dive into the pool," she giggled when he raced outside without a second thought. hannah got out just in time to see him disappear under the water.
"so refreshing," he said when he came back up.
the gymnast finished applying the sunscreen to her chest, stomach and legs. when she felt she was fully covered, she walked closer to the edge of the pool. james swam towards the egde, staring up at her. "you better come in."
"i will. i need to acclimatize myself first."
"you wouldn't have to if you just jumped in," the brunette grinned.
hananh loved swimming, but she was not the kind of person to just jump right in unless someone was throwing her in (probably james because he loved doing that.) instead, she sat down and swung her legs in. her boyfriend took that as his opportunity to perch himself there, letting his head rest in her lap.
"thanks for coming home with me on your long weekend off," he hummed after a beat of silence.
hannah got monday off because her boss was going to be out of town and was nice enough to let the interns take it as a vacaction day, so the brunette booked the first train into long island to spend it with james who was also coincidentally in town for the same weekend.
"thanks for having me," she ran her fingers through his brown locks.
"of course. you're always welcome here," she blushed when he pressed a little kiss into her thigh. "how is the internship going though? do you like it?"
"i like it. it's fun. i've met some cool people and i've been exploring new york more," when summer started, hannah was terrified of hating her internship because she's never been in a new city by herself before. now though, she loved it and quickly made friends with the other interns who weren't as new to the city and were able to show her around more.
"good. i'm glad you feel more comfortable," james met her gaze with a smile.
"me too. how's your summer going? how's the lake house?" hannah had to live vicariously through everyone when they were in michigan now. "it's good. everyone is good. they miss you and can't wait to see you."
"i miss them too. it feels so weird being away for the summer."
"it feels weird having you away," james agreed making her heart skip a beat. she squeezed his arm, "is that why you have a picture of me in your wallet?"
james paused for a moment, trying to figure out how she knew that until he remembered her grabbing his wallet for him in the car. a bright blush coated his cheeks that hannah found absolutely adorable.
"uh, well..i-i've had that. i put it in like..close to the start of the season. thought you looked really pretty when you showed me the photo so i figured out how to print it small so it could be in my wallet," james explained shyly.
now it was hannah's turn to blush some more. "i can't believe you really wanted that in your wallet."
"why wouldn't i? you looked so pretty and i get to see you every time i open it."
james lifted himself out of the pool, leaning closer to capture hannah's lips with his. she cupped his cheek, kissing him back and loving how their lips felt together.
"i love you," he mumbled when they broke apart.
"i love you more," hannah grinned and let him pull her into the pool.
she dove under, her entire body getting wet. it did feel refreshing after the long island sun beating down on them. when she came back up james was there to greet her. "feel acclimatized?"
"now i do," she giggled when he wrapped his arms around her torso.
summary: samy and will look for time to themselves in between the chaos of summer at the lake house

yay more present time samy + will fics! wrote this on a whim after trying (and kind of failing) to write more for samy and will and finally liked how this one turned out :) like slight talk of sex at the end, but nothing actually described. mostly just fluff!

samy sensed him before she felt him or heard him. something in her just told her that will was close by and attempting to surprise her by wrapping his arms around her shoulders while she sat in one of the chairs on the back porch reading. "you better not be all sweaty before you hug me," she spoke up and she didn't have to look at him to know the boy froze in place.
"how'd you even know it was me?"
"lucky guess. i have a sixth sense for you," the girl laughed, still not breaking her attention from her book.
will's lips folded into a grin. he walked forward again and this time samy didn't stop him from wrapping himself around her upper half. "i actually just got out of the shower. do you really think i'd smother you in my sweat?"
"i mean you have before," she finally found his gaze, smiling with a hint of something else behind her expression. the boy's entire face pinked, "you say that like you hate it."
"it depends on what you're sweating from," the soccer player shrugged, observing the way will nervously breathed out as he studied her face. she loved knowing that she could still affect him like that. "you smell good. did you use my body wash?" her nose filled with rose and vanilla.
"i forgot my body wash, so i've been using yours," will explained.
"i was wondering why my bed smelled more fresh recently," apparently, samy was in a teasing mood. the blonde gently shoved her, rolling his eyes. "did i do something to you? you're being extra mean to me."
"i'm not being mean. i'm sorry. just teasing you," the youngest hughes giggled, pinching will's chin between her fingers and bringing his lips to hers so she could kiss him.
they melted into one another as their lips molded together. when they were at the lake house, it was rare that they could find time alone together without someone interrupting or chirping at them for their affection so the kiss they shared was the first real one they got in almost days.
it was obvious too because neither of them could pull away.
samy needed air first, so she broke their kiss, smiling at the way will chased her lips before gently pulling back too. "how was ice time? what'd you guys do?" she wondered, watching the hockey player collapse into the couch adjacent from her chair.
"it was good. fun. we just kind of did whatever. i'm kind of stiff though. my back felt so tense after," he stretched around in the cushions, his muscles still tight even after the shower.
"getting old already?" the brunette grinned.
"shut up."
the girl got up. leaving her book in her seat as she joined will on the couch. "want me to massage it?"
"if you want," will pulled his shirt off, his skin glowing in the sunlight.
anytime samy saw her boyfriend without his shirt, she wanted to devour him whole. she swore each season grew will's muscles bigger than before. he filled out shirts that used to be a bit too big, especially in the arms and the back whenever he crossed his arms or flexed and the material was literally skin tight against his biceps. or when he was lifting something and samy watched, she saw the way his back muscles flexed and stuck out.
now with his shirt off, she had a clear view of everything—his broad shoulders and rigid lines that marked how hard he'd been working on and off the ice. she knew if he turned around she'd also be able to see his hard chest and defined abs that he spent years sculpting and perfecting.
everything about will made samy's heart pound.
"you gonna massage me or keep checking me out back there?" now it was his turn to tease her. samy blushed in embarrassment. "not my fault i have something to stare at," she quipped back, moving her hands up to his shoulders to start.
samy wasn't an expert in massages, but she'd done it enough to know what will liked and how to ease the tension away. she started gentle, her fingers digging into where his shoulders rounded while her thumbs rubbed just above the blade.
a soft, relief-filled groan escaped will's lips almost immediately. samy smiled.
"fuck. that feels good," he muttered, dropping his head when she pressed her fingers in harder.
"damn, you are kind of tight. you been sleeping okay?" she could feel the tension in his muscles, especially when she started moving down his back. will leaned forward so she had better access.
"as far as i know, yeah. i dunno, my back gets tight and achy occasionally."
"do you think it's from when you hurt yourself still earlier in the season?" samy knew her boyfriend still felt the affects from when he got knocked into the boards and sometimes he needed to go back to physical therapy for it.
"maybe. that wrecked me in all kinds of ways," she heard the deflated tone in his voice. it was one of the reasons will was so hard on himself during the second half of the season because it felt like he just got so behind on his progress.
"hey. you bounced back really well and taking the off season to heal and rehab even more means you'll come back even stronger next season," samy assured, deciding to press a little kiss into his shoulder blade. the blonde twitched at the feeling of her lips on his skin, gently smiling.
"i know, i know. i just feel like i could've been so much better if that didn't happen or like..i was paying more attention. i couldn't even play all of january and it felt like everyone was progressing but i wasn't," he vented a little. anytime he opened up, samy took as much as she could because it was hard to get it out of him in the first place.
"i know it was hard. it's still so early though. it's only your second year on this team. there's so much ahead of you. this will be your year, i know it," she kissed his other shoulder blade.
"i guess i just...people compare me to mack all the time and as much as i love him, it kind of hurts when people can't see me for someone outside of him..or anyone else on the team. he's our star of the team, but he's not just doing it all by himself. we're the ones who get him the goals and pass him the puck. i don't know how to explain it," will breathed out a soft sigh, groaning again when samy hit a particularly good spot on his back.
she kissed that place too. "i get it. comparison is..killer. i'm not gonna say don't compare yourself to him because i need to take my own advice, but you're good will. great, even. don't let fans who hardly know anything try to tell you otherwise."
the hockey player shifted, pausing samy's massage as he turned to face her. he sported a soft smile on his lips, clutching his girlfriend's hands in his own. "i love you. thanks for always believing in me."
"of course. i love you," she smiled sweetly.
even though he was the one with the shirt off, will couldn't help but check out his girlfriend too. he ran his hand up her leg, stopping at her thigh where her little sleep shorts cut off. he gently squeezed the flesh between his fingers, eyes floating up her torso and across one of his old boston college t-shirts that she liked to wear to bed. samy could be wearing anything and will would still find her insanely attractive.
"now look who's staring," the brunette muttered, watching her boyfriend drink her in.
"can't help that you look so beautiful," he replied, lips on hers in seconds again.
the tension in will's back eased the longer he kissed and felt her lips against his own. everything in his brain turned into nothing but mush and thoughts of samy. he used his strength to easily lift her into his lap, her little giggle fueling him on.
"you know we probably shouldn't be doing this when anyone could walk out," samy said in the beat of space when they pulled away.
"are you saying we're starting something?" the boy smirked.
"i don't know, are we?" she teased back.
will's heart leapt, feeling himself harden at the mere idea.
3 years and all it took was some light teasing and a bit of kissing to still rile will up. samy prided herself knowing she never had to do much to turn her boyfriend on.
"i mean my shirt is already off," he shrugged lightly.
"you wanted the massage."
"you offered in the first place."
the couple shared a laugh, their noses brushing together when their heads leaned forward. the boy's blue eyes stared into hers while her fingers twisted together the curls on the back of his head.
"if we go inside, we're definitely gonna get stopped and pulled apart by everyone who wants our attention," samy hummed. she loved their friends, but when they were all together like this it was impossible to not have one of them needing the other for something.
"so..we don't go inside?" will said like it was obvious.
"and where are we gonna go then?"
"i have my keys in my pocket."
samy didn't even realize he did until she pressed her leg against his thigh and felt the hard outline of the key fob. "why do you even have them in your pocket?" she laughed.
"well i did come out here to ask if you wanted to just go somewhere with me to begin with because i haven't had much alone time with you since we got here," the sharks player explained. samy blushed.
"oh really?"
"hey, god forbid a guy misses his girlfriend and barely gets time alone with her because of the twenty other people in the house with us," he rolled his eyes which made samy laugh again.
"okay, okay. they're gonna know what we were up to though," she shifted off his lap, flushing when she noticed his half hard bulge hiding in his sweatpants. oh how she couldn't wait to be alone with him.
"again, god forbid a guy misses his girlfriend and wants to spend some alone time with her," will pulled his shirt back on.
when he stood up, he pressed another kiss to her lips, just wanting to feel them again before they snuck around the house to the cars in the driveway. "is anyone gonna be blocking you in?" samy wondered when he took her hand and pulled her off the porch.
"no because we took my car this morning and i made ryan pull in before i did. i thought this through," samy realized he really did think all of this through. she wondered how long he was thinking about doing this for.
will's gray bronco was the last car in the long row. him and samy were giggling as they climbed in and didn't even think twice as they rolled out of the driveway and onto the road.
"do you have the location in mind too?" she wondered, loving the way he reached over to hold her hand. "maybe. you'll see."
no one in the house even realized will and samy snuck away until hannah went looking for the brunette. she wandered onto the porch, eyes sweeping over the furniture like maybe samy was hiding or sleeping somewhere. she didn't see anything but the girl's book left on the table.
"find her?" ryan wondered, coming onto the porch too.
"nope, just her book," hannah said.
"weird. couldn't find will either."
the two exchanged a glance almost instantly. it suddenly clicked, especially after they realized will's car was gone. "ah, i get it. you know, i'd do it too," ryan chuckled and wandered back inside to inform everyone where their two friends went and how they would tease them for it when they got back, especially if one of them happened to sport a hickey somewhere.

i definitely see this for her! just bc she's dedicated so much of her life to gymnastics and she loves it so much, she wouldn't wanna give it up yet after graduating from college. plus, i think she can return to the olympics at least two more cycles so she's def not done w it yet!
