ZAUNTRIO WEEK, DAY 2
Prompt: In The Mines
"Vander was tired of so much digging. It had been one of the worst days in the new mine. But the cycle was repeated. Wake up. To be exploited with the heaviest jobs for being one of the greatest. Eat what he could with miserable COINS, eat as much as he could, scratching money from the ground to keep himself well. Sleep. Falling asleep.
But this time, the tunnel they had entered with his soul-brother, Silco (who was just as exhausted as he was) seemed like the perfect place to fall down in surrender this time. Escape. For once, beg for sleep somewhere other than your usual worn out cot.
Silco in turn, did not offer a better look. He had faced death for good the third, fourth, fifth time, dynamiting gunpowder in really closed and risky places. But no one from above cared a shit about his life. Not that of any of those below, of the zaunites. As long as everyone works to maintain the wealth of Piltover, the better.
Silco did not shed tears. He was so exhausted that he was only grateful to be alive, and at his brother's side.
Without saying anything, they leaned back on each other, one on top of the other. Vander settled as best he could in a slightly "softer" set of rock than the rest. His heavy breathing soon calmed Silco's heart. "Sleep, sleep..."
This is how Felicia, their close friend, found them with the light of her helmet. She settled down in front of them, without saying anything, changing the light of her helmet for that of a small hand lamp. She was a very tough woman. She knew what life inside was worth. But she could do another else that... Smile? After having 'breathed' deeply, imperceptibly, through the heavy air of the tunnel. She could only see her friends, sitting, illuminating them with the light of her hand lantern. She could see them silently rebelling against the system. Sleeping.
And that... It was strangely hopeful.
In its own way.
There was hope in Zaun. There was life in Zaun. Someday, things would change. They both knew because they were going to fight for it. And Felicia trusted them. She gave them the greatest motor that a man's heart can have. Hope."
