The canary is not yet dead. Its neck mottled with bruises and its vocal cords swollen. Its feathers ripped out. Its eye decaying with a vile infection inching towards its brain, one day causing it to lose its mind before suffering a painful death.

The canary will have one last song, even if no one else will ever hear it.
