#29: Moment
Summary: Going on a solo mission with your best friend is always fun and full of surprises. Not sure you had seen that one coming.
Sitting in the brown leather seat, you had been called by Matty for a new op.
“Where’s Blondie?”
“Uh, stuck in traffic, you know LA.” you noted, discreetly texting Mac to hurry up.
Fortunately for him, he rushed through the door before you had time to send your message.
“May I remind you that accelerators are made for something?”
He sat on your armchair: “Sorry, Matty.”
She turned around to light up the screen and you elbowed him to what he responded with big eyes.
“Y/n, Mac, this one’s for you.”
You had never failed a single mission where you two were paired up. His science and your sweet-talk ability were one hell of a duo.
Matty went on to explain what the op was about and concluded: “Bring back the ledger, that’s all.“
You got up and headed towards the exit, as Mac held the door, Matty advised: "For your own sake, I better not get any calls from any agencies.”
Even though everyone knew that this was too unpredictable, Mac reassured: “Of course.” Before quickly winking at you.

Standing outside the giant property’s back door, Mac tackled the lock problem.
“Do you have a—“
You handed him a bobby pin. Within two more seconds you were in, entering a (probably secondary) kitchen.
“Guys, there are no cameras after that lobby on your left and I have no eyes on the owners.” Informed Riley by the comms.
Mac looked at you.
“We got this.” You replied.
You followed Mac as you made your way through the various rooms, finally walking down the stairs supposedly leading to the ledger.
“I see it.” You murmured before hastening towards the item.
“Y/n, wait!”
Mac caught you by the waist and pulled you close to him.
At the same time two voices grew louder turning into human forms.
He had most likely saved the op.
“Thanks.”
He let out a huge breath, briefly closing his eyes.
You noticed where his hands were laying, he noticed it and removed them right away.
“What are they doing here? They have like a hundred other rooms to talk.”
“Um, I don’t think that’s what they plan on doing.”
You peaked your head and saw the couple hung to each other’s lips. Rolling your eyes, you prayed it wouldn’t go further.
“I bet they are not even in love. I mean, how could they even be sure of it.”
“I guess one day you’re in front of someone and you just… know.”
“Honestly, at this point I think it only happens in Disney movies.” You joked. Mac didn’t seem to be receptive to it, so you added: “What? Has it ever happened to you?”
“I—“
A phone call interrupted his answer and fortunately the make out session. They both left the room, giving you free access. You grabbed the ledger and quickly exited the place.
Later that night, you choose to celebrate your victory in a local bar.
You raised your drink: “To a successful op.”
“To us.” Added Mac.
You smiled before taking a sip.
All of a sudden, the enthusiasm he displayed changed into confusion.
He looked down and told you: “The screen. Behind you.”
You pulled your brows together in a frown and turned around.
In big red letters was written “breaking news: two individuals sought in connection with break-in” along with pictures of the both of you.
“I think that’s our cue.” You said, getting up.
After a conversation with Matty, she informed you that exfil had been compromised. New orders were to stay in the area and to keep your head down.
Mac drove for half an hour before stopping at a motel for the night. He came back to the car with two keys.
“There you go.”
“Thanks.”
“By the way, these are adjoining rooms, the last they had.”
“It’s fine. That way you’ll save me from a Psycho remake.” Joking about the horror movie look of the place.
Mac laughed and turned off the engine.
You walked together to the stair leading to the rooms, but you didn’t feel like sleeping.
“Do you mind if we stay outside for a moment?”

Can I just say, Matty giving Mac the money for cancer research funding, not demanding to know what was going on and having 100% faith in Mac? Amazing. Best character right there. Finally, someone actually knows and understands him.
