Happy 90th, Theatre-By-the-Sea!
90 years ago today (August 7, 1933), a charming if unremarkable summer stock theatre opened its doors right next to the beach in Matunuck, Rhode Island. In and of itself, I don’t know that I’ve ever have marked the date, there being probably hundreds of similar little small town resort theatres around the country — BUT for the fact that it’s located in my hometown and I worked there one summer…

Rhode Island is the smallest state in the union, measuring only 48 miles long and 37 miles wide, but it’s shoreline runs for over 400 miles, hence the nickname “The Ocean State.” Rhode Island’s small size and massive coastline result in a literal entanglement of land and water, fostering a large sense of responsibilities and astute knowledge of climate change within the culture of Rhode Island residents. We as individuals, as a generation, as a country and a residents on earth, must foster this sense of responsibility and knowledge of climate change.
