OMG this was so much fun! I made such a mess and wasted so much paint! #OpusDailyPractice for Day 10: #Folk inspired by #MaudLewis, #Canadian folk #artist. . When I saw her work, I really wanted to try #painting one of her #cat paintings. Her style reminded me of Grandma Moses, whose art was in my own grandma's house. 😊 . I started by gessoing my page to inhibit warping and wrinkling, and then did the rest in my #acrylicpaints. I mixed the basic colors together to get different shades and washed a lot of it down the sink! | Maud Lewis

Just finished watching Maudie this afternoon, and as expected I cried a bucket of tears. I never knew about her until I watched the movie & now I'm deeply inspired by her.

She had always lived in poverty, suffering from arthritis (hope i spell that right), and being an outcast. Shits happened in her life, but somehow she found a way to cherish it. Painting.

Simply, painting.

Once you look at her paintings, they may not seem high end or classy, but there's a strong feeling in each. As if an innocent, pure hearted person painted them. All looked happy & bright. Even tho her life is full of pain.

She put all of her heart to the paintings. And once she got popular, she didnt even cash it, I mean, she did sell it but not likely to get much from it. She still lived in her small house with her husband, Everett Lewis. Small yet heart-warming, full of colorful paintings that makes you feel like you're in a safe place, in a happy place, despite the world outside is being hard to you.

The movie tells even a lot more, and the scene when Maud died was like.. the saddest one to me.

Her husband, indirectly, said sorry that He thought of her as an imperfect being and useless once.. now He couldnt imagine living without her. And Maud said.. it's okay, she felt loved.

I dont know how accurate the movie to the actual story tho.. but still, its such a beautiful story.
