Red sunset and sickle Moon provide a backdrop to the giant basaltic shield volcano of Mauna Kea, Hawaii. Fine volcanic dust particles pumped into the atmosphere by the 1991 eruption of Mt Pinatubo and dispersed by strong winds created this spectacular sunset worldwide.

"Saturn slipping behind the moon"

At 4207 meters above sea level on Hawaii’s Mauna Kea, photographer Andrew McCarthy set out on a challenging climb.

His goal was to capture a rare sight, Saturn slipping behind the moon.

From the peak of the dormant volcano, he finally witnessed and photographed the stunning event, bringing a piece of the cosmos down to earth.

Was gonna do a highest lowest, but since there's three contenders for highest with different factors, we're doing this one

Mount Everest is the highest altitude above sea-level

Mount Chimborazo due to Earth's equator bulge (closet to the stairs I saw an article say)

And Mauna Kea the tallest mountain from base to peak at more than 33,500 feet.
