Lindsay Janssen at Maven Creative
Who are you? My name is Lindsay Jansen and I am from Orlando. I’ve lived in Central Florida for most of my life and consider myself a native here. We are at Maven Creative and that is where I work. I’m a production manager for a team of graphic designers and I work with all of our projects that are active. What’s the most important thing to you about this space? The most important thing about this space for me is that when I come in, it feels less like a workspace and more of a collaboration space with people that I know and respect. We all get along like family—for better or for worse—and we all have really unique minds that, when put together, create projects that we are really proud of. So it’s a privilege for me to have a place that I can come into work and it not feel like another job, but instead something I can be a part of and believe in.

What are you most proud of in your life personally and professionally?
It’s an easy one and it’s not even something I got paid to do, which is ironic. In 2012 I got the opportunity to partner with Cole Nesmith with something called the “Creative City Project”. I originally was going to help him out with administrative work. It was very much a grassroots type of project. We started with just the desire to get art into the streets and have people experience the culture of Orlando in any way, shape, or form. And it ended up evolving to where I was event manager for an event every day in the month of October 2012. At the same time I was working a full time job while having to be present for whatever event was in downtown Orlando. It was blood, sweat and tears and a lot of asking for forgiveness instead of permission. I mention that a lot about being something that I’m really proud of because it was personal and professional. It was professional in the sense that yes, it was work; it was personal because you have to put yourself into it and it has to come from somewhere that’s not a paycheck and it does not necessarily amount to a line on a resume. It’s a “I believed in it, so I did it no matter what came of it!” You have a company called ORL Creative, How did that begin and what do you all do? ORL Creative is actually the name of a hat company that I started a few months back. I started it because I thought a hat would be a really cool way to represent Orlando and I liked the idea of ORL. I’d seen other companies that had hats and they had letters on them and Orlando just wasn’t represented and if it was, it was our airport code, MCO. And ORL was really important to me to find. So I looked on the internet for any apparel that had ORL because my intention was to just buy someone else’s and not to make my own. When I realized it didn’t exist, I got the light bulb that said, “Well, maybe you should just make it yourself.” So I started the process of figuring out how to make my own from scratch. It was really clunky and messy and not necessarily something I would sell, but it got the job done and I started getting a lot of positive feedback from people in my circles that it would be something that they would like and want to buy. Since making them from hand and increasing the quality, the demand is also increasing. I at first handed them out to some friends, just to kind of get the word out and now I am hearing that people are seeing them everywhere and that they are seeing them on instagram and social media. [I’m hearing] “Where did you get that? Where can I find that?”

What are your other favorite spots in Orlando? My church. Celebration Church Orlando. We meet downtown at Howard Middle School. I’ve been going there for about 2 and a half years. And when I walked in the doors, I just had this connection that I felt like it was home. It was a mix of things. It was the people, how welcoming they were and it was feeling like it was just a good fit for the time in my life. And I decided to get more involved, to build relationships, offer my time and volunteer; I feel so connected to the community and it becomes a home away from home. I think [having a place] where you build relationships and where people know you and you know them is why it feels like home. I feel really blessed and thankful that I not only go to a place to receive, but I can also go and give back, too. It’s a vital part, not only of my week, but of my life.
My wife just had 3D Lasik Eye surgery at Hunter Vision in Orlando, FL. Not only did it go wonderfully, but as soon as we entered the office, we felt comfortable. The staff was attractive and warm, the interior design was inviting, and beautiful images and HD nature videos graced the walls.
As a graphic designer, I was drawn to the logo. Clean. Simple. Appropriate. Perfect.
As the logo is etched in the class on the front door, the brand immediately sets the tone for the office, and in accordance with Hunter Vision's impeccable attention to detail, the logo is even impressed into the napkins available to guests.
