We wanted to look at a variety of programs and methods for the scanning of the broken part/section.
For scanning, We looked into :
Agisoft Photoscan - Camera (Pieces together 3D mesh from 20-30 photographs)
- Program is relatively easy, yet time consuming to use, currently inaccurate mesh. While having potential, program is pretty much too time consuming to be effective and accurate.
Artec 3D Scanner - Kinect Scanner
Real time scanner using Kinect, maps a low res mesh detailing movement. Used in Bioshock Infinite (http://www.artec3d.com/blog/Eva+and+Elizabeth%3A+Artec+scanners+help+create+official+commercial+of+Bioshock+Infinite_22981)
Reconstructme - Kinect Scanner (Note: There is a major difference between a PC Kinect, and an Xbox Kinect.)
Rep G - Code for the 3D Printing
Note - Photos need to be taken on a consistent scale with accuracy. Spacing the photos around the broken section will be mandatory so we can get an accurate 3D mesh. Running the Cam/Kinect on a circular rail using a stepper motor needs to be considered.
