Bones sexuality/gender hcs (reoccurring characters edition)
Max is funny to me most of the time because yes he murdered people and burned their guts but everyone treats that as a mild inconvenience like no Max you can’t murder anyone you need to help Parker with his science project and drive Christine to daycare
I love the contrast of Brennan basically being like ‘dad stop threatening people’ and then she finds Booths tooth and is like ‘I’m gonna kill her’
I just can’t help feeling so bad for Max. I know he got himself into this situation because he was a criminal, but it sounds like he was an amazing father and if the past had never showed up to threaten the kids he would have carried on being an amazing father. He would have totally been that embarrassing dad taking pictures of everything she did and clapping the loudest at graduation.
When you think about it Brennan is just so much like her father. The way they both block out emotions in order to focus on the details. I mean Max literally had to bury his own wife's body and find some way to carry on living. That would have been extremely traumatising and yet in season 2 he’s on this very focused mission of revenge. Just like his daughter he projects this air of calmness despite the chaotic things he does. I’ll have more to say on this once he actually arrives in the show, but I think he also shares his daughters problems of understanding and connecting with people.
I love how the dude playing Brennan’s father in the flashbacks morphs into Ryan O’Neal next season and we all just accept the explanation he had surgery and ignore the fact the voice on the phone was completely different.
Rewatching Bones again because I’m listening to the Boneheads podcast. I’d forgotten how angry the episode with Michael makes me. What an insecure prick. He could have disputed her facts without trashing her personality and work methods. Also I always wonder if the body they find at the end of the episode was one of Max’s kills, because wasn’t that his MO, to burn them on the top of tall structures?
Another casualty of the writers strike is the fact we didn’t get to see the immediate episodes after Max was released. It would have been nice to see them navigating the fact that there is no danger anymore, nothing for them to focus on except being a family. I can’t remember at the moment when the next time we see Max is, but it’s a shame we had to wait and I don’t think we see Russ again do we? Which is annoying because they made so much of Brennan’s loneliness and still didn’t let us see her with her brother. They could have written him in more.
