Now there is this AU idea by @seashell-the-theater-kid and Ive been doodling it a little bit lately but it brought me to another conclusion. What if NPMD swapped into TGWDLM and Pete replaced Paul so I give you: The Nerds who hated High School(title changeable)

Pete/Paul: Pete is fully aware of CCRP's true purpose and is head of the science team even if it goes against his morals. He mostly stays on the job so he can have some control in what happens around him. One of his main jobs includes consistent meetings with the Mayors informant since the mayor has too much to do for meetings with him. He is a lot more responsible compared to Ted so in this swap, he takes care of Ted and cares a lot about his well being. Similarly to Bill and Allice. he has a lot of anxiety over Teds actions and consistent trouble with his peers in High School. His talk about how he was bullied in high school and would never go back is a parallel to Paul's hatred of musicals. except he is much more justified.

Stephanie/Emma: After graduating in communications and Business to her fathers insistence. Stephanie lands a job as her own fathers informant. She keeps track of the paranormal stuff around town even if it costs her a lot. she wants to quit one day and open a record store after she gets enough money to start it. Her days are usually spent in meetings including her ones with Pete. Which she looks the most forward to. Even asking him out to dinner a couple times. They are still awkward but much more forward then Paulkins so they have gone a on a few non-serious dates.

Ruth/Ted: Obviously she is not as sleazy as Ted but she is openly horny in her actions. She isn't a teen anymore so she did land some hits in her time though. especially agfter she got her headgear removed. She is actually best friends with Pete and Richie unlike Ted and Paul's relationship, and she works with them in the lab. She specializes in the time streams but has not been able to test them out yet. She is in an affair with Grace the secretary/spy of the office.

Richie/Bill: Richie is still awkward but now that he's not a teenage boy he's matured a lot in the asshole department. Now you can find him eating pizza in breakroom watching Anime on good days. He is in the cloning department and has succeeded in cloning Grace's fiancé once but it died fairly quickly. He's super sweet though and has no kids or anything unlike Bill as that has been transferred to Peter.

Grace/Charlotte: Grace is like if Charlotte let out a lot more rage and was a lot more prudish. She is deeply ashamed about her affair with Ruth still. Not because she cheating though its because its with a woman. She started it in the first place and her job is to keep tabs on the "IT" section when they do experiments. Nothing so far as the CCRP group is in high school still and they are the LIBs favorites. Her fiancé is Max and she openly hates him and doesn't bother with counseling. Only keeping it together for the imagery.

Max/Pokotho/Sam: Max is all of these rolled into one as he is Graces fiancé and the story is surrounded on him getting caught in one of the experiments when Richie was collecting DNA on him. His affair is with Kyle as I think it would be interesting. He is mostly reliant on Graces income as after high school his peak ended and now he helps Stephanie on the mayors staff when they need the muscle. He has no access to the supernatural secrets but gets stuck in the middle of everything.

When one of Pete's experiments backfires the LIBs take interest in Max Jaugerman. Giving him the magic to mind control everyone and turn them back into teenagers. Which in turn makes the whole town under his control. Now this would seem kind of meh just like the singing thing in the og but it becomes more an more clear that anyone deemed a nerd is killed off for the jocks to rule. So everyone is turned back into teens at a point with the hormones and confusion. and the goal is not to get mind controlled and kill each other. Max has his rule at the school and instead of the theater it is his throne room.

They end up taking refuge in the mayors house who is now a nerdy kid who hates Steph. He is mind controlled when his old friends come to invite him over to something and instead kill him.

There's a scene just like not your seed with Pete and Ted with Richie being the voice of reason when Pete feels it was his duty to protect Pete when his parents abandoned them. And he failed his poor little brother.

…also, against my better feminist judgement, i was rooting for max/kyle so heavily by season 3. and they almost brought me to tears multiple times 🫣
