maxine tended to be a bit of an over achiever, a teachers pet, even she recognized it as her own flaw. she knew it could come off annoying the way she raised her hand at every question, corrected other students, and stayed after class to speak to the teacher even more. she didn’t really care what the others thought though, she had good reason to be doing so. she wasn’t going to sit back and pretend like she didn’t know the answer for the sake of her reputation, her reputation was the least of her problems and something she couldn’t care less about. she was here to get a good education and do something more to help the world, not to impress anyone here.
so her over achieving self of course signed up for the opportunity to get away and learn more with some hands on experience. it was good to get as many new views and experiences as possible, open your mind some more (even though she tended to refuse to when she had her mind made up on something). still she applied, and was lucky enough to get in, which she hoped came from herself and not in hopes her family would donate even more money to the school.
she was especially excited to have isla on the trip too, the two of them would be connected by the hip through it all, sticking together as the only two people with confirmed brain cells on the trip. maxine had a short fuse, was easily irritated by others and seeing the group of people there she already knew many of them would irritate her, so she was glad to have at least one person she knew, liked, and could confide in.
she didn’t even get the chance to be annoyed with them though because they were back before she knew it, back before they could even get to where they were destined. soon she awoke to the campus once more, few lights still lit up for the students coming back to their dorms late from a party or a one night stand, but the campus was as dead as expected so late at night. she sighed in annoyance at the bus drivers announcement that the trip was cancelled, too tired to question why, assuming there would be an email about it in the morning. “this fucking sucks.” she announces to no one in particular, but knows the rest of them could agree.
