A New Me

Jay Ferin makes me feel deeply complex shrimp emotions that I cannot articulate, so I decided to chuck one of my poems at her and see what came out of it.

Not sure what the venn diagram of 'people who saw my Rosamund Du Prix comic' and 'people who are currently seeing this comic' looks like, but if you exist in that presumably minuscule overlap, then this is in fact another part of the poem that I used in that comic! (If you haven't seen it, here's a link in case you wanna see that.)

I spent like a month or maybe more on this comic in total. I just got really stumped on how I wanted to represent different aspects of Jay's life, and between creative block and moving (woo!), I just really struggled with this one. I think I'm happy overall with this comic though, and I am very pleased to share it with you all :-).

Hits the Ferins with my Flashback Cannon

Thinking about the mother who came to May for help after having her daughter kidnapped and held for ransom. About how May must feel in this moment, hearing the pain in the women’s voice, and recognizing it as if it were her own. Because it is her own. She knows all too well the pain of losing a daughter, but this time the loss doesn’t have to be permanent.

thinking about may ferin reading letters from jay about her adventures. reading with a smile on her face as jay occasionally lets slip how she’s really settling in, how she’s getting close with gillion and chip.

so happy for her daughter. she can tell how much this—piracy—fulfills her and makes her happy, just like her uncle. how she’s found her place among these ridiculous sounding young men and she’s really coming into her own.
