I've been diving back into maya's backstory and the dew family drama, and some thing don't exactly make sense, or if they do it's fucking insane

we know that Maya lived on the Epona farm in her childhood, then GED poisoned the land, the animals and they got bankrupted, GED bought the land (which, why didn't they do anything with it? they fought so hard to buy it and it's just been sitting there untouched). let's say Maya was 8 at the time.

the family bought the forgotten lands farm, lived there for a few before realising the land wasn't fertile, then the parents started traveling to get jobs. Maya is now around 10.

that's where the crazy stuff starts.

maya's character sheet says she's used to sleeping in stables or on couches. which is a wild thing to say about a 17 YEAR OLD.

first of all, why didn't maya's parents take their kids with them? I guess they didn't have the money to feed them all, which is why Maya mentioned she has siblings living with their grandparents on the other side of the island.

secondly, we don't know if Maya ever went with her siblings to live with her grand parents. that would be the logical option, since she was ten, because why would her parents and grandparents just abandon her like that?

I think she may have started out living with them, but for an unknown reason (homophobic grandparents? she wanted to got back to the family farm so bad they got annoyed and said 'well if you wanna go back so badly, then go!') let's say she was around 14 when that happened.

then she started helping out in stables, sleeping there, sometimes sleeping at a friend's house. eventually she finds the moorlands, they give her actual work and salary, so she has enough to eat regularly but can't find somewhere to sleep. she continues sleeping in the stables until the moorland notice, then they offer to house her.

eventually she calls her parents and says she wants to start taking care of the animals on the farm again. they start sending a bit of money for her to do that,but it's not enough so she has to pick from her salary to do it.

here's what doesn't make sense : let's say she's 16 when she comes back to the farm. no one has been on the farm for 6 years. they probably sold all the animals before going, but even if they didn't, how did they survive without anyone? I get surviving 1-3 years but 6? especially because the animals there are cows and sheep. which need to be milked and shorn. they wouldn't have survived.

so did they just buy new animals? they're poor, they can't do that. it costs more money to take care of them, so why buy them when you're poor? Maya doesn't have the necessary time to make profit out of those animals.

another way is that Maya just continued to take care of these animals as soon as her parents left to work elsewhere. so her parents were just okay with leaving a 10 year old caring for many animals alone on a farm? it's pretty hard for a child to do everything around a house and around a farm. Maya says the house is in disrepair, so she must not have been living there for a while.

I only got into this because I wanted to find where to insert myself into her family for a fanfic, but there are so many things that don't make sense, it's so complicated
