“So, how does this work?” Maya asked with a cocked eyebrow, clearly not thrilled that her parents had forced private security on her; sure, there was a stalker out there who’d sent some disturbing stuff her way, but she hardly thought she was in any real danger. It was the price of being in the spotlight, she figured. And yet here she was, with a whole new shadow to follow her around. She’d been used to it when her father had been in office and she lived in the White House, but now that she’d gotten a taste of freedom, this didn’t sit too well with her. She knew that the guy assigned to her had no fault in it, if not being the unlucky pick who had to endure her resistance. It didn’t help, however, that they hadn’t really started off in the best of ways, as he’d seemed to dislike the assignment as much as she did. Which should have made her empathize with him, but instead simply fueled her dislike for the situation. “I get that you follow me around when I go out, yadda yadda, but here at home?” she continued, looking around at her living room. “Do you have to stand there in a corner like a creep? Or outside my door? Or do I need a pad to recharge you overnight?” she asked with a clearly entertained look, though she did want to know whether he’d been instructed to stay inside the apartment or not. It would decide the level of resentment she would manifest towards her very loving and loved parents the next time she saw them. “What are your orders, Major Pain in the Ass?” For good measure, she added a little salute there.
