“Are you sure about this?”
“Without question,” Maya assured with a nod. “Laurent needs me there, and I don’t think you need me here anymore. My replacement is top-notch. So long as you don’t try to sleep with him too, I believe you’ll be okay.”
“Fuck off, Alliot. The plane was ready thirty minutes ago.”
They’d both known the moment the words had come out of her mouth that her mind was set on going. Neither the head of Launceston nor anybody else who’d known her had questioned why it was that the second in command of their city was stepping down and heading to London to be by Laurent’s side.
Maya Alliot was a protector of her people. She did everything in her power to ensure their safety, even if that meant giving up the biggest and best opportunity she could ever imagine. Stepping down would undoubtedly raise eyebrows, but Maya answered to no one but the French Bros and the head of their organization. If they said she was weak, she’d punch them square in the throat.
Two hands grasped the arms of the chair as she pushed herself up from and slowly made her way around the desk. Her hand was outstretched for him to take, but instead of shaking it, Fran St. Clair pulled her into a hug. They had come pretty far, hadn’t they? From him being an absolute pain in her ass as she attempted to be his bodyguard, to their shared child who almost broke their friendship. Maya Alliot had known that there would always be a piece of her heart that Fran St. Clair would own, and even now, as they said their goodbyes, she knew that no matter their past, she would always do everything in her power to protect him.
“I’m going to miss you, St. Clair. Take care of yourself, okay? Don’t make me come back here and crack skulls.” The French loyalist pressed a soft kiss on his lips before stepping away. She had been almost out the door when she paused and started to say something more, but before she could even open her mouth, Fran spoke over her.
“I know you do. “
And she always would.
Maya’s hand released the door handle that she’d been holding onto, and started down the hallway. Behind her, the door clicked shut – closing with it a chapter of her life.
Maya Alliot had started off as a bodyguard; a bodyguard with a debt to pay to the most dangerous man in Launceston, Nicolas St. Clair. The fact she was entrusted with the life of his younger son said a lot, but nobody could imagine that ten years later, she would find herself promoted to Commandant in the French Organization’s most important city. Maya’s new role would open many doors for her—two of which gave her the opportunity to start opening her own businesses, and flourishing outside of her criminal capacity.
The Vault had been a surprise acquisition that hadn’t come from the French, but instead, from one of the many friends her job had allowed her to meet along the way. Mistral’s had been born as a result of its predecessor’s success, and her own personal want to hit their rival organizations where it hurt: right in the fucking money. Taking her own reins in the business world had taught her that she could be so much more than mere muscle that the St. Clair organization relied upon. Since coming to London, Maya Alliot has opened a second Mistral’s and a Jazz bar named Smoke & Mirrors.
Though she is excelling in places she never imagined that she could, she still remembers the young eighteen-year-old that took down five of Nicolas St. Clair’s best men; an action bold enough to earn his attention in the first place. That strength has only hardened throughout the years, and whilst she tries to be professional at all costs, Maya Alliot is one that should not be second-guessed, and certainly not crossed.
After all, everything she’d gained came at a cost, and every cost takes its toll.
How many friends had she lost along the way? Emily. Reagan. Nicolas. How many loved ones? Luciana. Her Mother. Or opportunities at love?
Maya Alliot had given up every chance of happiness for the St. Clair family, and she hadn’t regretted it for even a second, because at the end of the day? They had still given her much more than she’d ever expected to have. Than she ever would have attained on her own. The road she’d been travelling down decades ago should have resulted in an overdose, or even her death, but Nicolas St. Clair had given her a second chance at life, and that is a debt that she knows she will never be able to pay back, no matter how hard she tries.
SOCIAL CONNECTIONS:
RELATIONSHIP STATUS: Théodore Chaussard (fiancé) FAMILY: Luciana Alliot (daughter, unplayable) CONNECTIONS:
Laurent St. Pierre: Best Friend. There are only four people in the world for which Maya would literally drop everything and travel to another continent. Laurent St. Pierre is the second person on that list. Maya knew that being a woman and a (as the teasing term was coined) ‘French bro’ was something of a rarity, but she had earned her place at the table long ago. After decades of working side by side, Maya has come to London to fight a war beside her best friend and she’s ready to do everything in her power to ensure he comes out on top.
Noa Halévy: Friend. Noa and Maya first met whilst the two of them were in Launceston, and the mere fact they’re together again in London means nothing but trouble for the people in it. Maya thinks highly of both Noa and her twin sister, and greatly appreciates their loyalty to the organization.
Adrian Castillo: Enemy. The hatred for Castillo burns deeper than that of even Richie Lombardi, and anybody who knew Maya Alliot knew that she would drive her freshly painted fingernails through that man’s eyes without hesitation. Take that amount and times it by infinity, and still, you won’t even come close to what she feels for a man that betrayed the St. Clair family.
The four horseman.
The Four Horsemen: Our characters watching the end of the world.
Rachael raised her glass of wine to Maya and clinked the crystal against Maya’s own glass. “To two badass business women who made one hell of an impact; kicking ass and taking names.”
