Kelly’s death had taken a toll on Mason. He tried to keep a low profile, knowing that no one expected him to care or reaction. He didn’t really know her, right? It was just his sister’s best friend. No, it was more. Mason was practically in love with her. It was what happened when a young impressionable boy spent a week with a cute girl who was older than him - who not to mention, gave him unhealthy food and video games. Best week away ever.
It was a constant stream of him taking pain medicine. It dulled his sense, helped him relax, made the heartache less because he didn’t have to think about her. He had probably dropped twenty pounds in the last three weeks. Now though, he had to leave. His stash was out and he was actually a little hungry. He pushed open the door to the Coffee Bean and stepped up to the counter. “Chocolate Muffin and a large Mocha, please...” He mumbled to the barista before stepping away and waiting.
With muffin and coffee in hand, Mason made his way to the back. He figured a dark booth to hide, no risk of someone walking by the window and seeing him. His mother would freak out if she saw him right now. He was still in that zombie state that she hated to see him in so much. He had not looked over Maya’s shoulder intentionally. It had been completely accidental. He had been scanning the room when the image had caught his attention.
“Kelly...?” He asked out loud, frowning a bit. She wasn’t here, but she was fucking everywhere all at the same time.
