Author’s Notes: Sooooo, I know the Muse and I are getting ahead of ourselves with this little snippet, but writing the next chapter of Promised is so very difficult and suspenseful, we figured we need a small break to reassure everyone that everything is going to be fine with Bri and Rog. Here’s a spoiler chapter of what lies in store for them in the future, if only they can get past the huge obstacle of the present. Please don’t read if you don’t want to be spoiled! XD
It’s also written in time for this year’s @maylor-week, with the theme, As Time Goes By. First day’s prompt: Brian’s birthday. Happy Maylor Week, everyone!
There were presents: books and sheets of music, even a lovely mandolin that Freddie had sent from his travels with Deacy in the Continent. There was a portable telescope from their mothers, and more scientific gadgets and knickknacks from Argyll and Clare. The nephew and niece had outdone themselves with drawings and declarations on handmade cards.
When all eyes finally turned to him in anticipation, Roger merely drawled, “Worry not, I do have something for Bri, only ‘tis private.”
And that had been that. Given his past propensity to overshare anything considered “private”, everyone had learned fairly quickly not to pry further and to give him and his declaration a wide berth.
He caught Brian’s small, wry smile as everyone hastened to change the topic of conversation and he smiled back, thinking the git had no idea what he had in store for him.
Buy the Muse some ko-fi to show her some love (and to make her write faster!) ^_~
