IZUKI HOURS #3

I'm in a shipping mood today~ so I'll be critiquing all Izuki ships I have seen! I'll list out pros and cons of each. This might get long lmao.

HyuuIzu - the top Izuki ship on Ao3! (Good job, me 😂) It holds a special place in my heart, I have shipped them since June 2017 (I'm a late entrant to KuroBasu xD). In fact, tomorrow is the three year anniversary of the day I got into KnB and fell in love with them!!  Pros: captain x vice captain, childhood friends, know each other very well, opposites but actually kinda similar, opposites attract, really cute tgt, SO MUCH ANGST WRINGER, fluff too though... tbh sooooo much potential for literally everything. Just perfection. (wdym I'm biased shut the fuck up) Cons: kinda one-sided as Izuki gives more for Hyuuga than Hyuuga does for him.

TakaIzu - a fun ship!! I really see them as friends more but I love the dynamic authors bring about. Pros: really fun, lots of crack AND angst material, cool concept, idioms, PUNPPORTUNITIES. Cons: crackshipping, no real canon basis, a little too similar imo?

KiyoIzu - cute asf!! Kiyoshi's super supportive of Izuki and finds his puns funny, an automatic point in my book. Pros: fluuuuffff!!! so so so much fluff. Perfect for AUs. Complement each other on and off court. Cons: Kiyoshi's loving nature may be too much for the more private Izuki.

IzuRiko - awww just awesome shit!! Riko’s badass nature matches perfectly with Izuki’s more relaxed personality. + they’re just super cute.  Pros: Izuki knows her well and knows to let her lead. Riko knows what works best for Izuki and will bring out the best in him. Fluff/angst potential, 100%. Cons: Riko’s kind of bossy and snaps at Izuki’s puns. Also, Izuki’s privateness might be too much for Riko, who’s also not so open.

HimuIzu - lol this is really more of me and @kibashinosss‘s interactions, so I’m using our stuff, Seb! lots and lots of angst, some fluff and TONS OF HORRIBLE FLIRTING. It’s hilarious in concept bc theyre so different lmao Pros: funny as fuck, crack/fluff/angst perfection (esp angst though), pretty boysssss Cons: Himuro needs someone more open and Izuki needs someone less pushy.

MayuZuki - lmao I’ve seen a lot of fem!Izu with Mayu and I gotta say... eeeeehhh. Still, it’s cute in concept and the few IzuMayu fics I did read were amazing. Pros: crack ship king, lots of potential, can go literally anywhere Cons: kinda bland really, also Mayu’s very selfish and Izuki’s very withdrawn so... kinda difficult to work.

There may be a part 2 if I think of more ships!! Thanks for putting up with me guys lmao

Mayuzumi/Fem!Izuki: She's a dreamer, and he's too real. (You must have been tired of that already, but when you write, I feel like having inspiration, ah.)

Sometimes their relationship strains on them like jeans that shrunk in the wash or an elevator with one too many people, not with imminent danger but still a sense of wrong and of discomfort. The problem is that she’s such a dreamer and he’s too real. She’s off in her world of puns and fantasies like she’s read a book too closely and it sucked her halfway in and she can’t get out She’s not as practical as he is, whimsical even when she can’t afford it, and for some reason (God help him) he’s actually kind of charmed by it. At the beginning, he’d been interested in finding the gaps inside her carefree attitude but now he wants to cover them up safely but he doesn’t know quite how. If he was the hero of some light novel he might, coming to his lovely, goofy girlfriend’s rescue but he’s not. Life doesn’t take place on the pages in some kind of world where things fix themselves, but for her he’ll do his best even if he’s a shitty mechanic.

They ring in the new year watching basketball on TV, and it’s not orthodox but it’s very them, lying on the couch with his arm around her shoulder and her not admitting she’s tired just yet despite yawning again and again.

It’s like in a light novel, only his parents keep coming into the room and looking at them and he really wants to move into the bedroom but he’ll definitely hear it from them if it happens before they go to bed. But on the other hand, it’s not like they’re going to be doing anything—and fuck it. He picks her up.

She’s heavier than he’d realized she would be, and she doesn’t look like she even feels secure, terror in her eyes as she clutches at him.

“At least pretend to be grateful,” he grumbles.

He drops her on top of the bed and then she smiles, tugging at his hand. “My hero was here.”

And then she’s asleep before he can unbutton his shirt, snoring away. She’s incredibly loud (and incredibly cute, damn it). He slips in next to her, shoving her over—in her sleep she latches onto him. Well, it could be worse.

Izuki’s grinning ear-to-ear, and he looks like he might just burst into whistling—Mayuzumi adjusts her hold on the book, prepared to hit him over the head with it if he’s done anything especially stupid.

“I,” he announces. “Just pranked Hyuuga. It’s been pranked number one all year!”

She takes a deep breath. “Really? You know he’s going to come after you, right?”

“Well, he can’t break up my date with a sweet girl like you,” Izuki says.

Mayuzumi snorts. “Do you know him at all? He so would, even if it’s the sweetest girl you know.”

“It could only be you,” says Izuki. “I’ve got a good read on you; I know beneath your cover you’re just—”

She does smack him. “If you’re talking about the novel, you can read it. I’m done.”

“Mayuzumi-san, please.”

His hand is warm on her shoulder, and she puts up no resistance when his mouth presses against hers. It’s better than him making stupid puns, after all.

“You should have studied harder.”

She’s swinging her legs on the bench—when did she get here? And how did she see his score, anyway?

“Eagle eye,” she says. “At least you passed, though.”

“It’s your fault,” he says.

“Really?” she says. “Was it my scores of interesting puns that distracted you?”

He snorts. “That was especially weak.”

She taps her chin. “Hmm.”

He stuffs the test paper deeper inside of his bag. He probably shouldn’t have said any of that.

“I mean I don’t mind…if you’re saying I was on your mind.”

Her grin is wolfish, nothing to do with eagles at all. Nothing.

“I need to go study,” he says, gathering his bag.

She grabs onto his hand. “Please. Mayuzumi-san.”

Oh, fuck.

I don't know but... Mayuzumi/Fem!Izuki: Everyone goes nuts in spring, especially Izuki. (Just-read-all-your-drabbles-and-Iblameyouformakingmeshipthem!)

think of all the spring related puns there are

“There’s so much pollenation, all in this nation…no, that’s bad.”

Mayuzumi tightens his grip on his novel. Maybe this will fade into the background.

“Mayuzumi-san, are you a tree in bloom?”

Mayuzumi turns the page and ignores her.

“Because I’m sakurazy about you.”

This time he groans. “That’s even worse than usual.”

“I liked it,” she says, jotting it down in her notebook.

After that, she’s quiet for a bit, and he manages to reach the end of the chapter.

“Hey, Mayuzumi-san—”

He cuts her off with a kiss. After all, that’s why you sit under the cherry trees this time of year.

Can you write about fem!Mayuzumi/Izuki?

He gives you too much the love that you don’t deserve, with his black hair and bright eyes and warm smile and clumsily folded letter.

You tell him this, of course, (because even if you’re being caught in this destructive spiral that you’ve created, even if you don’t give a damn about life, you’re not entirely heartless.) you crumple his notes and turn up your nose (your grey eyes darken like storms, storm of hidden grief). You’ll only break him, you think, and it’s like a crime to kill such a wide smile and lively spirit like that.

"I’m going to marry you someday, Mayuzumi-san." He tells you and you roll your eyes and tell him that you don’t believe in marriage or love in general (and you certainly don’t believe a guy like him will bear with you to the end of the world, and don’t believe that you yourself can walk in the path of light. But you don’t tell him that.)

He smiles and says, (his eyes are so bright, you note with annoyance. Because those eyes enable him to notice things and people that he shouldn’t notice.)

"I’m willing to wait until you change your mind."

Inwardly sighing, you close your eyes and think of the softness of him - his eyes, his hair, his hands, his heart - and try to make that as laughable as possible in your head. Then you open your eyes and smirk so cruelly because it’s necessary. (don’t succeed much, you can tell that): “Don’t think so highly of yourself, Izuki Shun.” You say, turning on your heel. “So stop sticking your nose in my business and marry a nice girl.”

"You’re nice." He says, eyes glassy like he’s thinking of kissing you and you hope he doesn’t.

"I’m not." You whisper, because whispering is the only way you can keep your voice even, so you won’t shout in frustration. He doesn’t get it, does he? He doesn’t understand that he’s like sunshine and his eyes are always full of hope and determination, and that’s worth remaining. He doesn’t understand that your mouth smells like wine and smoke or that you’re destroying yourself. He doesn’t understand you like the balance you have when walking on earth and he always flies.

He doesn’t understand that when you say, “I don’t want you, Izuki. Go away.” You mean it and you’re not changing your mind and it’s certainly so much better like that.

(You’re too afraid to receive so much love, so you run away.)

Mayuzumi/Fem!Izuki

Izuki always loved the beach. She loved to sit by the ocean and the waves, the sunrise and sunset and literally everything (she told him that she had the eyes that see everything.) She loved to pick up the seashell and build the sand castle and soak up the sun. (She spreaded her arms, inhaled the smell of the sea, and imagined she was an eagle and, 'Mayuzumi-san will have to try hard if you want to catch me,")

She loved to jog barefoot across the sand (Do you know that Riko used to make us train on the sand, it was good for our jumping ability.)

Sometimes, late at night, he thinks he sees her, with her ever smiling face and bright eyes, leaving footprints in the sand.
