Hi! Sorry if I keep bothering you with my questions 🙏 but I’m working on the fic now, figured out where I want it to take place- my only problem is I couldn’t find any posts for the context on how Star manages to get away from Homeworld in order to track down Steven and not be followed or deterred by the diamonds. Plus, what would make Star stay once Steven is stabilized?? Like, wouldn’t he wanna rush back to Homeworld for both of their safety least the diamonds do something to them or the earth?? (even though Steven seems happier here) Does Star secretly want to stay as well?? Sorry if this is all to spoilers of me to ask. (Also if you’re cool with me asking more questions I may come up with more later- it helps me formulate the fanfic cuz I don’t wanna get the facts or relationships wrong 😑) -also I want to try my hand at making Star more vulnerable and emotional and I’m hoping that will be cool with you (I know that role belongs to Steven more but I wanna see how Star would handle being such as well)

Ahhh I love these questions!

l'll admit- I intentionally have left some facts a little vague rather than detailed, so I apologize if you were hoping for more detail: but the diamonds are deities who have lived a very long time and do not age. Given how much Star's (or Pink's from their pov) behavior has improved as well as how much he's distanced himself from them emotionally- they're not constantly monitoring him like they did when he was younger. Time doesn't pass for them the same way it might for Star, so it takes a while to notice he's left. Spinel also plays a role in helping him sneak out and covering for him so he's not missed right away.

He does intend to return to Homeward after Steven recovers. The reason he stays is simply: he's not a wholly logical being. Star stayed for the same reason Steven left: he's a child stuck in an unsafe environment. Earth feels familiar and the security and comfort it provides is hard to resist. And his human half is happy in a way he hasn't been in a long time, and that makes it even more difficult to leave. He doesn't return to Homeward with Steven until the diamonds finally notice his absence and demand for his return. (although his anxiety and sense of responsibility were always in conflict with his desire to stay).

PLEASE DO I love when people explore his more vulnerable side- it's definitely there even if I hardly express it enough myself. As for Steven appearing the more emotional/vulnerable one, he's closed off in his own ways too :3
