Disney's TMBS is a FANTASTIC adaptation of the books and probably my favorite book-to-screen adaptation of all time. There is one thing, though, that was very out-of-character, and something that always bugs me- right when Kate's about to be brainswept.
What is she doing??? The Great Kate Weather Machine would never just sit there brooding. They left her alone in that room. DESTROY THE MACHINE!!! Even if messing with it would set off some sort of alarm breaking it would be a huge W. Kate would have a blast going to town on that thing! It was already established how violently destructive she was inclined to be towards the Institute's machinery.
I did really love Kate's monologue in this scene because it's such a deep dive into her character. I just can't imagine the Weather Machine would be left unattended next to one of those evil devices and NOT take the opportunity to tear it to pieces. She knows she isn't helpless. She can still do something.
