@ruvikkin-art
Here is your gift, I hope it is long enough. The boys are happy! <3
Waking up in the late afternoon has been blissful. Give or take Jesse’s snoring, Jack wouldn’t trade these small moments for the world. The warm glow behind the curtains was comforting. Jesse was resting his head on Jack’s chest. He hoped that Jesse couldn’t feel his heart fluttering. It was enough to make him blush. Jesse’s hair smelled like cigars and bourbon. The scents were relaxing to him. His eyes were shut but he was awake.
Jack had been hiding out after the fall of Overwatch. Life was, but difficult. Everyone thought he was dead. Hell, the Strike Commander of Overwatch was dead. But Jack wasn’t dead. Jack had spent days, weeks, months alone. It was painful being alone especially when his life was once completely in the spotlight. Jack hide in Europe for a bit, until the situation was calmed down. He was aware of all of the safe house locations. Gabe, Ana, and himself did handpicked the locations themselves after all.
For some reason, Jack was drawn to the location in Dorado. Maybe he wanted to fight low level crime in the city. There was plenty of gangs and cartels to take down, so Jack could take his anger out of them. Or maybe it was because he’s been there before. The vacation in Dorado he took with Gabe was one of the blissful moments in his whole career. Back when Overwatch fell, his heart would ache thinking of Gabe. But those wounds of pain and agony began to subside when Jack saw Jesse’s face. The relief washed over him to see that man’s face. Jack saw Jesse sitting at the back of the bar. Jack figured Jesse was hiding out too but the odds of both men being in the same city. What a small world. Jack wasn’t sure how to approach Jesse, without causing a scene. Jack had leaned over the bar counter to buy Jesse a drink- and a note clumsily written on a napkin. He told the barmaid to deliver the two items to the man with the red serape in the back. Jack stepped out, moving quickly to the location he wrote on the napkin. Jack had to be careful, after his little raid at the old vault- his ransom was an absurd amount in the millions. If Jack left his guard down, well he’d see McCree having no problem collecting the ransom for himself. Jack felt an eternity pass while waiting in the park at night. Sitting at the bench, it was only an hour before Jack saw Jesse approach him.
“Thanks, for the drink,” Jesse said “mind if I know why you wanted to meet up?”
Seeing Jesse up close hurt to see that he aged too, although Jesse was still smoking cigars. Some things don’t change.
“Yes, but I had to make sure you weren’t going to try anything.” Jack grumbled. Feeling a little unsure of how Jesse would react to his next question. “I just wanted to talk, do you mind putting down your Peacekeeper?”
Jesse hesitated then asked “Not sure if I trust a stranger? Maybe if you put yours down too then we can talk.” The last word drawled from his lips.
Jack sighed and put down his pulse rifle as Jesse mimicked his motions. Both guns on the ground, Jack looked at Jesse. Though Jesse could not see his face, he gave a friendly grin. Jack always appreciated Jesse’s optimism. A hiss came from his visor as Jack released his clippings. Jesse did a double take and he sees Jesse’s shoulders drop in shock.
Without warning Jesse lunged at Jack, he tensed up but he realized Jesse was embracing him. Jack felt his emotions welling up inside his chest. “I can’t believe you’re alive.” Jesse muttered in Jack’s coat. “I can’t either.” Jack breathed out.
After that, Jack and Jesse hung out incognito. They’ve been lucky so far. Jesse would always make sure they were both ok. Even though it felt like the world was becoming darker. Jesse was the light Jack needed after all those years.
Jack had never felt more happy and alive than any other day in his life.
I hope it’s long enough.
