Typography Tuesday

DOLLHOUSE

We thought we would begin the year whimsically on this first #Typography Tuesday of 2023. So today we present a display font called Dollhouse designed by Kristen Faulkner in 1995 for House Industries. Soon after the font’s release, the Minnesota Center for Books Arts (MCBA) selected Dollhouse as the display face for their 1998 Winter Book The Everyday Magic of Walter Lee Higgins by David Haynes, printed by MCBA artistic director at the time Mary Jo Pauly in an edition of 125 copies. The text font is Kennerly from M&H Foundry in San Francisco, and the digital Dollhouse initials are rendered here as linocuts.

Other fonts Faulkner has designed for House Industries all have the word “house” in them, including Housecut (1994), Housemaid (1994), Outhouse (1994), Springhouse (1995), and Itchyhouse (1995).

Opening of the MCBA (Cantonal Fine Arts Museum) in Lausanne last month. It was so packed that I actually didn’t get a chance to really explore it, which means I need to go back there sometime soon and check it out more calmly. Also, I’m still not in love with the grey exterior of the building, but I really love the window you first see coming in.  Credit for the middle picture goes to: Matthieu Gafsou.

I'd like to apologize for not posting much art these past couple of days ! I've had a nasty stress-induced migraine since Wednesday, so I haven't had much will to draw or stare at screens. MCBA Fall Con has also taken up much of my life this week as I've been preparing new prints and stickers to take for a test run! All of my stickers are laminted and cut by me so that's a few hours of labor right there 😂

I'm going to try my best to finish up at least one commissions today before I leave for MN, for someone who's been so patient and kind !

Thank you guys so much for understanding, and things will be back to normal on Monday
