MCC TCG Sky Battle Art Part 1
My megapost of all the work I made for it let's goooo
It covers:
Part 2 will have my skill cards because I hit the image cap for this post :(
So I was just rapidfiring sketches over top the template I was given
And they chose the first one since it fits what they wanted the best
During the initial sketch phase they wanted something like flying chickens n chests to be incorporated and there was miscommunication about it so I added them in later
They reused the hell out of the initial cover art I made as you can probably tell by the promotional pieces that were posted after the fact XD especially the background + cloud shape n colours + random bits around the main island.
This one was fairly straightforward
I didn't expect them to reuse the cover box background for this one, I drew it on just a plain white bg so the colour matching is a lil funky on the final product but oh well XD
So I threw in the benday dot + triangles thing for fun but then it became a prevalent reoccuring motif in the rest of the work I made for this project XD
3) CaptainSparklez Card Art
This is the first pass I made based on some prewritten information I was given. Jordan liked the water gun + said running away from things is funny so I iterated more on it
He chose bottom right for the first batch, and top right for second!
At this stage we hadn't figured out a third card yet, and Jordan's first skyblockle win was with a trident, so opted to comp for that, which created my personal favourite ironically funny composition
Despite watching Jordan for so many years, I'd never drawn his skin before so I referenced artist Inga's take on him cuz I see their work a lot on his thumbnails and community and it's a cool design -w-b
Drawing this background was like man I told myself it would be simple
The entire piece pops in a BW pass though which is the most important thing, I really wanted readability to be prevalent in these cards.
So I made them all individually then compiled them at the end and tweaked them to become more cohesive and feel part of a batch
It's very minor, but I tweaked the watergun card background to be a bit more green to separate it from trident card since they both have the same blue sky, but it needed a stronger secondary colour identity. In this way the rare is multicoloured magenta/pink/orange dominated coloursplosion, water gun is teal green, and trident is orangey red/blue
Honestly the most fun I had with colour was making cap's coat POP
The red is SO vibrant and makes him a dominant part of the compositon through colour alone so I'm proud of myself for that ^^
But ye here's the rough breakdown of the box art + cards I illustrated :3c
