So I was scrolling through Lance's family pictures when suddently I found out something.

In S1 Lance left Earth and thought about his family

There's his brothers, his sisters, parents and grandparents right?

We also see them all in the family picture:

But then, in S7 we see Lance's family again and

Where is his grandpa????

Lance's grandpa died while he was in space.

To them, it had only been two years in space. They had defeated the galra once and for all, Pidge found her family, Keith finally figured out who he was, Shiro’s PTSD came less and less (but would never go away) and Lance and Hunk grew closer.

They could all go home. Allura announced that she would return the Paladins home to earth very reluctantly. “There may be other threats.” she said softly.

“Allura,” Coran put a hand on her shoulder. “They did well. They deserve to go home and return to their families.” He smiled pitifully at her.

“Come with us! My sisters would love you.” Lance grinned.

Allura worm-holed them home to their solar system and flew towards earth. Shiro told Allura to land on Mars so any governments wouldn’t try and take the ship. “We can’t afford to explain what all of this is to them. Nobody would understand. Not even the Garrison.“

So they all landed on earth in the blue lion putting her back where they first found her and stopping at Keith’s house to recollect and get readjusted to earths gravity and atmosphere.

The next day they were all on their way to see their families. Pidge and her brother and father went to go see their mom, Hunk went home to his grandmother, Keith went looking for his dad, and Lance went home to his family.

But to their horror, the people they once knew were gone. Everyone on earth had aged 30 years.

Hunk’s grandmother was in her 50s when he left so the woman was still alive and was excited to see her grandson again. He was confused but decided not to dwell on the fact that she was so old.

Pidge and her family found out their mother had died after Pidge disappeared. She died of a broken heart so they never saw her again.

Keith eventually found his father, not too far off from where he went looking. He found a 60 something old man who immediately recognized his son by his mullet.

Shiro didn’t have any family nearby and hoped a skype call would help him reconnect. Nobody answered but he thought nothing of it.

Lance… Lance had it bad. He and Allura went to his old house and found his mother, father, his youngest cousin and youngest sister. "Wh- where is everyone?”

Lance’s family begged to know where he was for all these years and why he never contacted them. “Mamá what do you mean? I was gone for 2 years!”

“Mijo! It’s been 30 years since you left! Why are you the same? Where were you?!”

Lance explained he was in space but nothing more. He didn’t have time for stories. He needed to know where the rest of his family was.

Come to find out, four of his siblings had died in a car crash. His 3 other cousins had moved far away. He was an Uncle 5 times over and they were close to his age now, and his Abuela had died 10 years after he left.

Lance was brought to his knees. A force pulling out his heart, his stomach twisting and turning. His face got hot, letting him know he was about to cry. His mother got down on the ground without the help of her family and hugged her son.

They cried together. Allura walked away, she couldn’t help. She’s the one who did this to him. To all of the Paladins. She kept them up there, made them form Voltron all to get revenge. It was her fault Lance was hurting. His family had grown without him.
