Some thoughts on Wyverns

We as a fandom need to talk about how ridiculous the whole "you need to be descended from divine blood" to talk to wyverns thing is. Like... Why?? The wyverns were literally just chilling in the overworld, and though they may have taken things a step too far when they taught the divine warriors about realm magic, the Divine Warriors were just people. They weren't born divine, they were turned into them by the relics, and the divine warriors have no real connection to wyverns beyond existing in the same time.

"Oh but maybe the relic gave them the power to commune with the wyverns!" Then why can their descendants do it? Is the divine something that becomes part of their blood and is then passed down regardless of where the relic goes? And even still, it ignores the fundamental truth that wyverns are literally just there. They have another realm, but in the time of Irene they were just chilling out. Just some big winged lizards with intelligence.

Intelligence enough that they would have just... developed their own language with? Obviously after the disaster that happened with the Divine Warriors, wyverns pulled back and stopped being a common thing in Ru'aun, they weren't always like that. Wyverns likely had friends that weren't the divine that they communicated with.

So for my rewrite I'm gonna recontextualize this. Wyvern's had their own language, one that a human would have to learn as a sign of loyalty to their wyvern companions, but after wyverns dipped out, their language fell into obscurity. While record of it exists, these records are hard to find, and not always in the best condition. So while it's theoretically possible to learn their language, it's incredibly difficult.

Unless you have a relic. If you have a relic or are the direct reincarnation of a Divine Warrior (not the same as being their blood descendant), then the memories of the relic/divine allow a basic understanding of wyvern communication. They can have conversations with wyverns, but sometimes a wyvern will use a word they've never heard before, or just have forgotten the meaning of.

All this to say that Vylad totally learned how to talk to wyverns while in 15 year isolation and so did Travis (even though he didn't need to) and they communicate with one another in said language sometimes just for funsies. Laurance and Garroth know some level of this language due to Ungrith and Raven, but in different ways. Unrigth was Laurance's friend, he cared deeply for him, and likely would have taught Laurance his language as they grew up together. while Raven and Garroth clearly have a connection, Raven insists that they are not friends and clearly wasn't a consistent presence in Garroth's life. The only reason Garroth understands him at all is because he's Esmunds reincarnation.

Vylad and Laurance using this wyvern language to communicate when Laurance is having a Shadow Knight moment? Absolutely. Travis trying in vain to see if he can translate this speech into some form of music or language? Yes please. Aaron being completely and utterly confused when he understands this language he has literally never studied and that being a vector for the cast to figure out who's a reincarnation if they notice that pattern? I'm just saying.
