Cole had to help handle it all, with focus, guidance and the look of surety and calmness on his face, even when he felt everything. The earth was still screaming in his head, scratching at his skull, unyielding and ever-present.

Then the world starts to shake, and Cole finds himself on the floor beside his bed. He's bruised, he doesn't remember how he got there.

He's watching Sora and Lloyd train under the bright light of the sun, and then he's inside, on a couch, staring up at the ceiling with fog coating his brain, a bitten tongue, and the taste of iron in his mouth.

Getting settled on a new planet has all kinds of ups and downs, Ryland Grace knows this. Eridian's are very different, not to mention simply their method of speech.

Grace may have forgotten to mention that some forms of sound, sudden and sharp, are painful to humans. It never came up, and after nearly a year on Erid, it had sort of slipped his mind. Not to mention, being on a space craft for nearly five years must have brought an issue like this to light, but it seems that he and Rocky had just gotten lucky.

The alternative, the pain of new sounds is discovered the hard way, with a bit too much blood as a result.

It was common knowledge that Knuckles didn't know too much about his own past. There were large swathes, years and years of gaps in his memories that he chose to ignore in favour of the present. He had friends, he had a life outside of his duty to balance and order; why question a past that bore no influence on his future?

Though when his memories stop adding up, when the blank spots in his mind become too large and mysterious, well, Knuckles was curious by nature.

But when he finds out the truth of his childhood, his birth and his parentage, the situation he finds himself trapped in quickly becomes inescapable.

Just like each time before.

All for One was gone, leaving only desolation in his wake.

Ground Beta had been destroyed and UA overall hadn't fared much better. Bodies of innocent civilians were being pulled from the rubble of collapsed buildings and the ashes of decay floated through the air. The monster's invasion of UA had gone off almost without a hitch, leaving the heroes scrambling to deal with the mess that remained.

And Yoichi. Forcibly dragged to the surface of One for All by his brother's own hand, into a body that was in no way his own.

Leaving Midoriya sealed within the Quirk and unable to wake up.

Cole came rushing in with a wide eyed expression on his face, an oxymoron to the order and grandeur that was Shintaro’s throne room. His hair was unkempt and what he wore, something far more extravagant than anyone would ever have expected to see him in, was crinkled as if he’d chucked it on haphazardly.

His expression seemed apologetic, but his eyes only displayed excitement.

“Sorry, sorry.” Cole said quickly. His eyes floated over the guests for a second before he cleared his throat. If he was attempting to look professional, he was sorely mistaken. He just seemed exactly how he used to be, a little all over the place but shielded under the guise of seeming put-together. “Someone forgot to tell me that we were having visitors. And the last thing I expected was to wake up and--”

“It’s called a surprise, Cole.” Vania said with a slight sigh, rolling her eyes as she entered the room looking far more organised than the man before her. “I know you haven’t been together as a group for a while.” She seemed to brush the Earth Master off, in favour of turning to the group of newcomers in her kingdom. “It’s an honour to have you in Shintaro again, ninja. I’m sure this stay will be far more uneventful than the first.”

Zane's attention immediately shot over to the doorway of the kitchen, the exact place that Cole had burst in from; eyes wide, hands stilling over the stovetop as he tended to a pot of soup, switching his attention wholly to the Earth Ninja.

"Even though I know that your powers allow you to mimic a great deal of things, I always forget that you can copy voices." The Nindroid said with a quiet sigh, yet his expression gave away more than a hint of interest.

What wasn't there interesting about shape-shifting and its further subcategories?

Everyone else was out of the Monastery that day, which had left the two 'veterans' on their own in the large expanse of the building. That probably explained why Cole was choosing to forego keeping his powers on the down-low. There wasn't anyone around to accidentally find out about their resident Oni.

Zane was still looking at his brother who had decided to lean against the doorframe, a wide grin on his face that didn't look like it was going to shift.

"What? Did I scare you?" Cole raised an eyebrow, smirking. "You look shocked."

"I'm just regretting many life desicions." Zane deadpanned which gained a sharp laugh in return. "Kai's voice sounds very unusual coming from you."

There was a minor pause, before a very different voice filled the air. Light and much more measured, with an underscore of a metallic lilt that only came with a nindroids vocal unit, "Would you rather hear yourself speak?"

Zane raised an eyebrow, one hand half way between the counter and the warming pan. "I always forget that you can do my voice too, I would definitely prefer to just hear your own voice, Cole. Now, set the table. Be useful." He smiled.

"Be useful-?" Coles voice was back to normal. "I am useful!"

"Of course you are."
