Soooooo…..This was intended for day 6 of mcmercy week , but unfortunately it’s taking me a bit longer to edit some of the other things I planned to post (( and, okay okay, my sister had been evil and distracting me with MHA too)), so I decided to at least go ahead and post this.

A sweet little idea that came to me tonight. I don’t know if this fits in with any of the themes for this McMercy week but I’m happy to submit it as an entry :)
Enjoy, my lieblings.
Exhausted from a late night Blackwatch mission, Jesse had collapsed into bed and fallen asleep almost straight away. When he awoke the next morning, he was puzzled not to find his angel next to him. Instead, she was flitting around the room as quietly as she could. As his eyes adjusted to the light, he saw that it wasn’t even seven. Angela gasped slightly as he grunted.
“Oh! I’m sorry liebling, I didn’t mean to wake you. Go back to sleep, okay?”
“What’re you doin’ up so early?” he murmured sleepily. “Come back to bed, darlin’.”
“I’m sorry, but I can’t. Not today. There’s somewhere I need to be.” Concerned by her tone, Jesse sat up.
“Everythin’ alright, Angie? You’re startin’ to worry me a little…” She smiled wistfully and sat on the side of the bed, pecking him softly on the lips.
“I’m fine, Jesse. I’m just going to visit my parents today, that’s all.”
“But I thought your parents…” Realisation dawned upon him and his heart sank. “Oh, right. I’m sorry, angel, I didn’t realise.”
“That’s alright,” she smiled, kissing him again. She then rose from the bed and began sifting through clothes.
Jesse sighed heavily; he could feel her hurting, but had no idea what to say or do. Having never known his parents, he couldn’t really sympathise, and right now he was kicking himself for it. Angela then looked directly at him; there was a sadness in her eyes, but also a glint of curiosity. A faint tremor coursed through her voice.
“Would… Would you like to meet them, Jesse?” His heart shot up to his throat.
“I…” Heat rose up through his chest. “Are you sure? I don’t wanna intrude…”
“How could you intrude if I ask you to come?” she giggled airily. “Yes, I am sure. You are very dear to me, Jesse, and I would like them to meet you.”
Overcome with humility, Jesse shifted out of bed and took his angel into his arms. She was rigid, but as he tightened his embrace he felt her ease into his body. A shaky sigh of relief escaped her lips – this was a big step, for them both. He whispered to her softly, planting a kiss on her forehead.
“Angie, it would be my honour.”
*
The air was crisp; it tinted Angela’s cheeks the loveliest shade of pink. Even after all this time, Jesse still found himself in awe of her. His daze was cut short by Angela taking hold of his hand and squeezing it tightly. He squeezed back and rubbed his thumb affectionately over hers.
“You okay?” he asked quietly.
“Yes.” She took a deep breath. “Let’s go.”
Jesse let her lead him by the hand. It was a small, modest cemetery on the outskirts of Zurich. All the headstones were a pristine white and kept in immaculate condition. Angela’s parents’ was certainly no different. Removing his hat, he knelt with her and together they lay down the flowers they had each chosen. Angela had picked out white calla lilies, while red carnations had been Jesse’s choice. Resting against the headstone was a framed picture enveloped in protective plastic.
“Is that them?” he asked, nodding towards the photo. Angela picked it up and uncased it carefully.
“Yes. This was taken on our last family holiday at Lake Garda.”
She handed the frame to him and he had to do a double take; a fair-haired woman hugged her daughter while a man with piercing blue eyes smiled proudly. Angela was the image of her mother, save the eyes.
“Well, it’s easy t’see where you get your good looks from,” he chuckled as he handed it back to her. Angela couldn’t help but let out a small giggle as she lovingly placed it back.
“You certainly know how to make a good first impression with the in-laws,” she teased, then turned to the picture.
“Mutter, Vater, I want you to meet Jesse. He and I have been together for some time now. I’m sorry I didn’t bring him to meet you sooner. But he makes me very happy, and I know you will love him just as much as I do.”
Choked up, Jesse cleared his throat and turned to the picture as well. The idea of talking to someone who had already passed was a little strange to him, but he knew this meant a lot to Angela.
“It’s an honour to meet you, Ma’am, Sir. I promise I’ll look after your daughter. Not that she needs lookin’ after.” He looked across at her and they shared a chuckle, reaching out to hold one another’s hand. They looked back at the picture and Jesse continued:
“If I may say, your daughter is a credit to you both. She’s smart, beautiful, and the best damned doctor I ever did meet. I hope you’re as proud of her as I am.”
“Jesse…”
He turned to see tears now rolling down Angela’s cheeks. Instinctively he shuffled over and put his arm around her, wrapping her in his serape.
“I mean it, Angie,” he murmured. “They’d be so proud of you.”
“I hope so.”
Together they remained in silence, Angela weeping quietly into his shoulder. As he looked on at the photograph, the family’s happiness seemed to radiate from it. In that moment, Jesse knew exactly what he wanted – to bring that happiness back into Angela’s life.
Life, for a god, wasn't always easy. As much as many brag about being gods, and how those in smaller ranks say it's far too easy to be one, Jesse felt like he had to disagree.
He was the God of Justice. Unforgiving yet caring to the very last person, outgoing and merciless to those who broke the law.
It was only after he was obliged to be a part of the mortals, that he realized.
He realized what he did was unfair, for some broke the law for having nothing else to turn to. Some broke the law to help others, and sometimes, breaking the law was the only way to survival.
He was used to the idea of one eye for one eye, a hand for a hand. He saw how unfair those he, and the other gods, ruled over. They did not have impenetrable skin, nor did they have endless food and a cozy shelter, nor did they have powers for safety.
They had only each other, and he guessed that's what made him open his eyes.
It was her who made him find a reason to give mercy.
She was not a god, but at first glance, he had mistaken her for one. Her golden hair shone like the reflection of the moon under one's honey colored eyes, falling down no longer than her shoulders. The dress she wore was blue, quite dirty, and simple. It was no bluer than her eyes, which were as bright as the morning sky even against the dim moonlight, yet it glimmered with a shine of her own.
The villagers said she was a skillful doctor, able to cure any disease, and to heal any wounds. Jesse thought this was silly, and scoffed at the idea of ever needing to be under her care.
He didn't know why he was sent to Earth by the higher gods, but if he wanted to go back, he had to make tasks.
Tasks to prove he was worthy of coming back.
And he guessed the best way to do that, was to join an army, or anything that would help him deliver justice.
He was stabbed in the stomach in his second day as a knight.
He went sooner under the doctor's supervision than he initially thought, which sucked. You know what also sucked? His stab wound.
He had never been hurt before as a human. When you're a god, you barely feel pain, and a stab to the stomach would have done (and felt) nothing to him then.
Now, he was bleeding and the woman in front of him cleaned patiently his wounds, even as he protested.
"Please, do stop moving so much. It will hurt more if you don't." Her tone was delicate, and somehow calmed him down.
He stared at her for a moment, and let the sight of her golden locks put him into a transe.
He didn't realize he had slept, but he woke up a few hours after with the pain in his stomach nearly gone, and found that the doctor was still there. From the noises of the animals of the night, he guessed it was rather late (and he wouldn't be able to go back to sleep so soon again).
To call her attention towards him, the god groans.
It works, because she's by his side as soon as he finishes the terrible sound.
"Did you sleep well? I'd hope you did, because you sure make a lot of noise in your sleep." There was a humorous tone to her voice, and he smiled softly.
"What's yer name?" It seems like it's the first thing he's said in days, his throat is sore and he feels thirsty. She seems to realize a certain roughness in his voice, because she grabs a cup of water and hands it to him.
Tastes awfully sweet to be water, and he makes a surprised expression.
She chuckles at his reaction. "Coco water" she says, and then, turning to her side to grab a piece of wet cloth and run it through his forehead, she replies to his question. "I am Angela, but I am surprised you don't know that. You are?"
He smirked softly. “Name’s Jesse McCree."
_______________
A beautiful friendship formed from this.
He'd visit her everyday, and found that he rather liked hunting criminals on his own instead of hurting people who steal bread for their own survival.
She taught him he was better than that.
Everyday, she'd greet him with a tired smile, and he soon learned she was a workaholic, and as the nights arrived, he saw himself taking her home for a good nights sleep.
After the first night he did that, he learnt that she wasn't as wealthy as he thought she was.
And so, he brought her a nicer house, only to find that she gave her former away to a poorer family.
She first showed him her compassion.
After a month, she taught him to forgive. She knew of his secret, for him was the God of Justice, and he learned that she wasn't a fan of him. Because he was unfair, taking those who did not deserve to be taken, not giving to those who so desperately needed him.
She taught him to have mercy above all.
And he used those gifts so carefully, cherished them so much, cherished her so much, that he really didn't want to go back to the Heavens.
He was attached to the humans, and their imperfect lives.
But it was soon that he was given the option to go back, and he was filled with pride and happiness. When he told Angela, the doctor's face dropped. She smiled gently at him, but he could not see the glimmer in her eyes.
"I am so happy for you, Jesse." She had said, not really looking at him. "You had told me it would take time. I'm so glad I was of help."
He could see the sadness in her voice.
"Angela, darlin', something's the matter?"
His question was met with a small nod, and a tight hug coming from someone who was trying so hard not to cry.
"I just hoped you'd stay longer."
For her, he did stay longer. But soon he saw himself missing his powers, missing his family and friends. Because as much as he loved the people down here, he also had a family of his own to go back to.
He was lost in those thoughts while walking to the doctor's station to greet her with a bouquet of flowers and bottled up feelings.
He was filled with such an anger and sadness that he had never felt before when he saw her lying down, blood splattered through the floor, hands trying to stop the bleeding on her chest as she frantically tried to breath.
Jesse quickly took her on his arms and tried doing the same, and as her desperation became his own, he began to cry: a strange liquid he had let go maybe once or twice, liquid gold, showing his immortality to anyone who was to see.
As he closed his eyes and whispered that it would be okay, perhaps more to himself than to her, he heard her breathing slow down, and only opened them again when he felt wet hands wipe the tears from his cheeks. They felt cold and warm with blood in the same time and how long was she struggling like this?
Angela smiled at him the best she could. It wasn't beautiful: her lips were darkened with both dry and fresh blood, dark fluid running down her fingers, nose and mouth, her blue dress nearly blue no more.
His tears only went down his face faster when he didn't feel her hand on his cheek anymore, and he saw that the glimmer had left her beautiful eyes, and the breathing that comforted him whenever he was hurt, did not exist anymore.
He felt so lost. Who would do something like this? Why wasn't he here? If he was a god he could've protected her. If he was here he could've defended her.
He kissed her pale lips and curled up around her body, crying so helplessly and grieving so much, he did not realize when she started glowing.
Jesse only dared to open his eyes again when he felt the once cold body on his arms inhumanly warm. When he looked at her face, he was met with glimmering blue eyes and oh such a beautiful, beautiful golden aura around her.
Spreading her golden wings, she smiled at him like no other.
A gift from Father. For both of them were worthy of being in the Heavens.
“ Wake up kid! It’s 10 a.m and you’re still on the bed!” Gabriel shouted. Jesse sighed deeply and opened his eyes.
“Come on now, this is your first day in Blackwatch! You have 15 min to get ready” Gabriel said and added “and by the way, from now on you’re going to wake up in 8 a.m”. Jesse got up from the bed and quickly took a shower.
He thought about the day that Gabriel took him from the deadlocks. He thought Gabriel definently would kill him but.... he didn’t. Maybe he saw something in him. Jesse was still questioning Gabriel’s motives but he tried to not think about it. The important thing is, he was not dead and in a safe place. He put his usual clothes on and opened the door.
Gabriel was waiting him in front of the door. “Come on now, let me show you the place” he said and took him to the Overwatch headquarters. He knocked a door which was labeled “Strike-Commander Morrisan”. A male voice called them in. Gabriel and Jesse entered the room. The man had blonde hair that was graying and blue eyes. “Is this the new recruit” the Commander Morrisan asked.
“Yes” Gabriel said and added “Introduce yourself” to Jesse.
“Howdy. I’m Jesse Mccree and I’m 17 years old. I used to be a member of the deadlock gang”. Morrisan looked startled and said “Really Gabriel? He is 17? He is just a kid!”.
“I’m old enough for you old man!” Jesse said.
Gabriel slightly hit him and said “Watch your mouth kid!” then returned to Morrisan “Look Jack, this kid was a member of a gang that we tried to take down many times and failed. With this kid we have a chance to get rid of them and besides- Would it be better if I left him with that gang?”
The room went to silence. After what felt like 10 min for Jesse, Jack said “Fine. But he is in your responsibility. And don’t forget to intruduce him to others”.
“I will see you around” Gabriel said, took Jesse from his arm and lef the room. “Next time, you will talk to your superiors with respect” Gabriel said.
“I can take care of myself!” Jesse said.
“Like getting yourself to a dangerous gang” Gabriel said. Jesse didn’t said anything after that.
“Look Jesse” Gabriel said and stopped him. “We are a family here and families take care of each other. You’re not alone here. We’re going to meet with the rest of the team now. These people are good, you can trust them”.
Jesse didn’t said anything. Gabriel sighed and said “Let me just intrudece you to them”
They went to the commen area. Jesse saw a woman and a man were having a chat. When the woaman saw them coming to the room, she greated them with a smile.
“Hello Gabriel, I take it this is the new recruit?”.
“Hey there, I’m Jesse Mccree. Nice to meet y’all”.
“I’m Ana Amari. You will call me Captain Amari. And this is Reinheart”.
“Yes Ma’am” Jesse said.
“Hey everyone!” a woman voice echoed in the room. They turned their back and saw a woman entered the comman area.
“Hello Tracer, was the mission sucessful?” Captain Amari asked!
“Yeah it was!” she said and noticed Jesse “Hey, who is the new guy!” she asked.
“Woah, cool hat! Are you a cowboy or something!” Tracer said with an energetic voice.
“Yeah, you can say that” Jesse said while smiling.
Gabriel looked at his watch and said “Shit, I almost forget the appoinment i got from doctor Zeingler” Gabriel said.
“For the new guy?” Captain Amari asked.
“Yes, we have to go now” Gabriel said and took Jesse to the Medical center. Before they entered the room Gebriel stoped Jesse and said “Now after we enter the room you will be behaving yourself. I don’t want to see you creeping the doctor”.
“I’m not an animal you know! I know how to treat a lady” Jesse said. Gabriel opened the door and they entered.
“Hey Gabriel, you’re here just in time” Doctor Ziengler said.
The moment Jesse saw her face, he felt that the time stopped and the only person in the room was her. He couldn’t take her eyes from her beautiful eyes, her cherry lips and short blonde hair. Gabriel was telling something to the doctor but he couldn’t hear what they were talking.
“Jesse?”
“Jesse!” Gabriel shouted.
“Oh, I’m sorry! I just... I’m startled by your beauty doctor” Jesse said while smiling.
Gabriel Punched Jesse’s arm.
Doctor Ziengler laughed and said “Well you’re a charmer aren’t you?”.
“I’m only speaking the truth m’lady” Jesse said. Doctor Ziengler laughed again.
“Enough!” Gabriel shouted. Two of them went quiet. “Now, please Doctor Ziengler, Jesse needs a medical examination”.
“Of course Gabriel. Please leave us alone for the moment. I need to be alone with my patient. “No flirtation” Gabriel said under his breath and left the room.
“Please remove your shirt jesse and take a seat” Doctor Ziengler. Jesse took his shirt and sat down. “So what is your name sweetheart?”
Jesse asked. The Doctor giggled and said “Angela. But in the field poeple call me Mercy”.
“Angela, Mercy. It really fits you sunshine” Jesse said.
Angela giggled again and said “You should probably not call me like that around the people”.
“But when we are alone? Can I call you sweetie” Jesse asked. “Hmm, i think it’s a bit unprofesional” Angela said.
“Does it make you uncomfortable when i call you sweetie?” Jesse asked with a serious voice.
“No, it doesn’t” Angela said with a smile.
“It’s all good then” Jesse said.
Angela nodded her head with a smile and then added “Hmm, do you smoke Jesse? Or drink alcahol?”.
“Both”
Angela sighed and said “No suprise there. You should really take care of yourself Jesse. I’m going to give you a healthy diet. And I highly reccomend you to stop smoking and lower your consumption of alcohol”. Jesse hesitantly looked at the list that Angela gave him and said
“I guess I have no other choice”.
“You have to be fit for your missions Jesse. Which means no junk food” Angela said with a smile. Jesse sighed and put his shirt on “Is that all, Doctor”.
Angela felt a sudden shift in Jesse’s voice. “Now, don’t get mad at me Jesse. I only want you to be healthy. And perform well in the field” Angela said.
“I’m not mad at you Angela. It’s just... This is all new to me. It wasn’t like this back in the deadlocks. Gabriel said that this is family and I should trust y’all. But it doesn’t feel like that” Jesse said.
“I’m sure you will get use to it Jesse. Gabriel is right, this is your family from now on. You need time to make bonds with the others. And trust me, it will start to feel like a family” Angela said and gave a heart-warming smile.
“I’ll trust you Angela. Then, I’ll see you around” Jesse said and left the room.
“What took you so long?” Gabriel asked.
“Ah, we were just making a friendly conversation. With no flirtation. I’m suprised that you didn’t eavesdropped us” Jesse said.
“Cut the slack kid. What did Angela said”.
“She said I should stop smoking and drinking. Which ain’t going to happen unfortunately. She also gave me diet”
“You ain’t going to smoke and drink on the field anyway kid. Get use to it”
Jesse sighed and said “You’re the boss”.
“Come now, there are others that you need to meet” Gabriel said.
While they were walking away from the clinic Jesse asked “By the way how old is Angela?”
“Enough, Jesse!”
“I’m just curious!”
Gabriel sighed and didn’t answered Jesse’s question.
That day they met the rest of the team and Gabriel thought him a few things about his job in the blackwatch. After a long day, Jesse throwed himself to the bed. He thought about Angela and what she told him abuout the team being a family. He fall asleep thinking about Angela.
Day 1 – Firsts , First Meeting.
(I posted this as a wip a while ago, but as soon as the themes were announced it was too perfect not to use for this.)
HC : This is the same day as the famous “ OG overwatch family photo” was taken. Mercy won a science scholarship that Overwatch has for promising young minds that have potential for future team members ( Torbjorn, her godfather, encouraged her to enter her theory designs for her Valkyrie suit after he found them squirreled away in her bookshelves ) . The winner also gets a personal tour of the Ow Swiss HQ, lead by one of ionic heroes themselves
She also happens to be there the same day a certain rookie Blackwatch recruit is getting his first debriefing. ;)
( note : I was going to have torb or even Ana being the one giving her the tour, but I like symbolism of using Jack just a little too much. PARRAELLS ,MAN)
I’m enjoying @mcmercyweek so much that I’ve gotten ahead of myself and written my Day 4 already…
Really hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it!
Weary yet content, Angela smiles weakly at her doting husband. Jesse brushes away the strands of hair matted to her forehead and kisses her softly.
“I’m so proud of you,” he whispers, a smile drifting in his voice. He too is tired, but the feeling is worth every sleepless hour, every pain. All of it is worth it, now that she is here.
The bundle in Angela’s arms stirs; Jesse tentatively reaches out, but he hesitates. His wife sees this and places a reassuring hand on his own, gently guiding him. Never did he think he could feel so much love for such a tiny thing. He wants nothing more than to shower her in affection, but he’s terrified – she looks as if the smallest movement could break her. As if she’s read his mind, Angela sits up and slowly hands her over.
“Go on,” she encourages.
Jesse, now trembling, lets out a composed breath as he takes his newborn daughter into his arms. She’s heavier than he expected. Very carefully he cradles her in his arms, gazing at her in complete awe. The infant opens her eyes slightly, and Jesse is looking into his own.
“Hey there beautiful,” he murmurs lovingly, a faint tremor in his voice. “I’m yer daddy.”
Angela nestles into his neck and can feel his shoulders ease as he begins to relax. She runs a thumb over one of her daughter’s delicate hands, and tiny fingers take hold of her own.
“You know, she still needs a name.”
“Well, I do have one in mind,” Jesse admits. “But I don’t know if it’s a little too close to home.”
“Let’s hear it.”
“Anabelle.”
Blinking back the tears, Angela simply nods and kisses him on the cheek. For their fallen captain, the woman who guided them both and taught them so much.
“Anabelle Ziegler-McCree. Oh, it’s perfect.”
The new parents share a loving kiss. As they part, Angela rests her head on her husband’s shoulder and her eyes ease closed. Jesse’s eyelids are heavy, but he fights to keep them open – he simply can’t take his eyes off little Anabelle.
